NuLEDS Launches Kickstarter Campaign to Introduce E-Lite! Lighting-over-IP® Ethernet based LED Lighting
Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) October 20, 2014 -- NuLEDs, the pioneers of Lighting-over-IP®, today announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to introduce E-Lite!, lighting-over-IP Ethernet based LED lighting. E-Lite! is the first ever recessed can light that plugs directly into a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switch. With the marriage of PoE switches and LED lights, consumers are about to witness the biggest change in lighting since Thomas Edison introduced the world to the electric light bulb.
“Existing lighting systems are costly to install, maintain and operate. And once installed, they are inflexible,” explains Matt Laherty, business strategy consultant and 20 year Silicon Valley tech veteran. During the past 15 years, Laherty held a variety of marketing leadership positions at Cisco Systems and is the creator of Cisco EnergyWise and Light as a Service. “In contrast, Power over Ethernet with LED lights enables customers to safely and easily move lights, adjust color temperature and automate failure detection—all while getting a better experience and saving energy,” Laherty concludes.
“We know there is a need for this type of innovation in lighting,” notes Lisa Isaacson, Chief Business Development Officer at NuLEDs. “After working with LEDs for years, Chris and I searched high and low for a quality RGBW, low-voltage recessed can light that could be powered and controlled with our technology. After realizing it didn’t exist, we decided to create it ourselves. And now we’re bringing it to Kickstarter!”
The 30-day Kickstarter campaign aims to raise $198,000 to support the next phase of production. “We’ve already mastered the art of lighting LED fixtures from a PoE switch and have written 10s of thousands lines of code,” comments Chris Isaacson, CEO at NuLEDs. “Our patented NuSPICE Protocol is the method of communicating between your device and the LED load. And we have the CAD design for the E-Lite! ready to go, along with a 3D print of the internal baffle.”
But there is still more that needs to happen to bring E-Lite! to the market. NuLEDs plans to use Kickstarter funds to create the molds that will enable large-scale production, develop the circuit board design, rigorously test the product, design packaging, write the app, and of course—ship E-Lite! to customers. If successfully funded, E-Lite! looks to start shipping in Spring 2015.
