AWAKE Audiences Invited to Take 21-Day Kindness Challenge
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 22, 2014 -- The producers of AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda – the widely anticipated film about Paramahansa Yogananda (Autobiography of a Yogi), which premiered in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco earlier this month – have joined forces with KindSpring.org to invite AWAKE film audiences and all those who wish to “awaken” kindness in themselves and others by taking the AWAKE 21-Day Kindness Challenge, beginning on Friday, October 24 when the film goes national.
The motivation behind the AWAKE 21-Day Kindness Challenge is simple: do one random act of kindness for someone each day for twenty-one days, and by the end of it, participants might find themselves wanting to continue the practice. According to the volunteers at KindSpring.org, “When we commit to cultivating our deepest values, we unleash a ripple effect that has the power to transform our lives and the world for the better. Practicing consistently as a group, we have remarkable strength.”
Yogananda often spoke about the importance of kindness and compassion towards others. He said: “When in service you forget the little self, you will feel the big Self of Spirit. As the vital rays of the sun nurture all, so should you spread rays of hope in the hearts of the poor and forsaken, kindle courage in the hearts of the despondent, and light a new strength in the hearts of those who think that they are failures.”
As part of the AWAKE 21-Day Kindness Challenge, each day participants will be sent an email with a unique idea that serves as a prompt for that day’s kind gesture. For example, an act for one day could be as brief as taking one minute to smile at strangers on the street, or as long as writing a thoughtful thank-you note to a friend. Participants are encouraged to carry out the act (or another intentional kind act of their choosing) and share stories of experiences both online and offline with others who have shared the film experience. This can be done privately or publicly through KindSpring.org’s community board and over social media.
