Emilio Francisco and The Orange County Basket Brigade Host The Charity Knife Sharpening Event
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) October 31, 2014 -- Thanksgiving is just T-minus a month away and everyone knows what that means — time to get the kitchen prepped. Luckily, The Orange County Basket Brigade Charity Knife Sharpening Event is Thurs. Oct. 31 through Sun. Nov. 2. What's better than having professionally sharpened knives before the big meal? Knowing that all of the money that was spent on sharpening those blades towards a good cause.
For just $1 a knife, customers can bring in their carving, slicing, bread, and paring knives to be professionally sharpened. Each dollar raised goes towards feeding families in need on Thanksgiving.
“Every single person has a knife in their drawer that needs to be sharpened,” says Emilio Francisco, founder of the Orange County Basket Brigade. “It is an opportunity for the community to become a part of feeding families.” The Orange County Basket Brigade Charity Knife Sharpening Event will also feature knife skill demonstrations, food tastings, and deals on cutlery sets and knife gadgets. There will be a charity raffle with culinary-related prizes. Those who come by on Friday Oct. 31, you’ll be able to sample Ted Bell’s specialty steak sauces and meat rubs that will be grilled on Ted’s of Beverly Hills’ mobile BBQ truck outside. On Saturday and Sunday, the cookouts will feature actor Michael Madsen’s BBQ sauces.
Every dollar raised for the knife sharpening as well as portions of the proceeds collected from Ted’s of Beverly Hills and Michael Madsen’s products will benefit the The Orange County Basket Brigade. This local charity’s mission is to raise $100,000 in order to feed 3,300 local families on Thanksgiving. “The Basket Brigade is a total community fundraiser that helps feed around 20,000 people on Thanksgiving,” says Francisco. “The event raises between $4,000-$6000. If $30 feeds a whole family on Thanksgiving, think about how many families will benefit from this event.”
The meal donated to the families in need consists of a large turkey, stuffing, potatoes, fresh rolls, butter, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, cranberry sauce, and a pumpkin pie. Each basket will be delivered to the family in need along with an anonymous letter that reads, “This comes to you from someone who cares about you. All we ask is that you take care of yourself well enough to be able to do this for someone else one day.”
