“We are incredibly excited to enter into this important and monumental agreement with ITOCHU, one of the most successful companies in Japan,” said Bryan Maizlish, CEO of GEM. The demand for GEM’s technology has been validated and proven and I expect our partnership to be transformational as GEM/ITOCHU aggressively pursues the tech-savvy Japanese market. ITOCHU is extremely selective in choosing partners, and this agreement would not be possible if the GEM platform did not meet ITOCHU’s rigorous and exacting standards for evaluating new technologies. As a world leader in providing international business development and operational solutions, we believe ITOCHU is the perfect long-term partner in our Global deployment.”

Maizlish added: “The Japanese market is an early and leading adopter of new and innovative mobile technologies. Japan is the second largest market for high-technology products, and we know that the GIGANETTV and SIMUL SEZ platforms are primed for rapid acceptance and growth in Japan. ITOCHU’s extensive market share and expertise, presence, reach, and proven marketing, sales, and distribution approach are relevant and significant factors in jointly achieving our mutual goals and objectives. We are confident that Giga Entertainment Media and ITOCHU Techno-Solutions, are strategically positioned to capitalize on the seismic change in the Global Millennial shift toward focused “simul-tasking” and Social Media/Video.

According to the Internet World Stats, Japan currently ranks third in the world in the number of Internet users, following only China and the U.S. There is one TV set for every Japanese household. Additionally, Japan’s telecommunications sector is one of the most active in the world. The country has witnessed the continued growth of VoIP and triple-play services and strong competition among the mobile operators in the 3G segment of the market.

Especially noteworthy is the adoption of FttH services (with a corresponding move away from DSL) and big strides taken in developing digital and mobile broadcasting.
