Henry Badgett, a retiree and World War II veteran, has completed his first book “White Man’s Tears Conquer My Pains – My World War II Service Story”: a gripping and potent memoir filled with a plethora of emotion and a tone of honesty that is unforgettable.

On his inspiration to write his first book, author Henry Badgett said, “I was talking with a young man that noticed my damaged right hand and afterwards I started thinking of my war experience. I went to my doctor and he suggested writing a book.”

Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Henry Badgett’s poignant tale is a powerful work of modern fiction with twists and turns that make this enthralling page turner an engrossing obsession from start to finish.

Henry Badgett’s first book, “White Man’s Tears Conquer My Pains– My World War II Service Story,” is the story of a young black soldier, fighting for his life in an all-white United States field hospital, in Manila, Philippines. He is filled with the same prejudice he experienced all of his life while trying to support a young wife and child back in the United States. Henry tries to prove to the world and to himself that he has something valuable to contribute to society even though he is being honorably discharged as a disabled veteran. This war made him a man.

The title for this story is truly because of a Southern white doctor who saved his hand, his life, and helped him learn how to live with prejudice and trust. Doctor May chanced his rank as an officer and refused to cut off his hand in surgery. After trying for three days to help him communicate with him in some manner, he put his face in his hand and said, “please say something to help me know you understand what I am trying to say to you.” Finally he was able to say “yes sir” and the doctor paused for a few seconds and began to cry. He looked at him and said “Damn, I feel good” This still makes him feel good today even though it took place more than sixty-eight years ago.

Service comes from the heart. Patriotism is one of the best qualities a person can have. And Henry Badgett shares his story of how he served and loved his country in his real-life epic journey during his World War II service. He narrates his life as a soldier during World War II as he dramatizes his journey by beginning it when he was enlisted to service. The story is structured around his training abroad, doing his assignments according to his rank and position, being a good friend and becoming a leader, and his traumatic near death experience. Henry Badgett’s experience offers encouragement to empower one’s self to accept and conquer every pain and storm that life brings. Pain always brings about an essential learning necessary for a person’s development. This story is not only very inspiring, informative, and interesting but it is also filled with soulful richness that you can carry on in your daily lives.
