Mayor Buckhorn Declares Tampa Prep Day
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) November 20, 2014 -- Tampa Preparatory School is celebrating its 40th Anniversary during the 2014-2015 school year. Mayor of Tampa Bob Buckhorn has named Friday, December 5th, Tampa Prep Day to acknowledge the school’s partnership with the community of Tampa Bay for the past 40 years. The SunTrust building will be lit red and gold to show support and appreciation of Tampa Prep’s partnership with Tampa’s downtown.
On December 5, Mayor Buckhorn will proclaim Tampa Prep Day to the students during a school-wide assembly. He will thank the Tampa Prep community for its continued support as a member of Tampa’s vibrant downtown.
Mayor Buckhorn said, “One of the great perks of being the Mayor is I get to recognize the organizations that have a real impact on our community, and make Tampa the city it is. Tampa Prep is certainly one of those organizations. For the past forty years, Tampa Prep has been dedicated to providing the type of education that is what’s best for students and instilling a higher purpose than self in every student who has walked its halls.”
During the assembly, Captain of the 2004 Stanley Cup team Dave Andreychuk and the Lightning ThunderBug will invite students and faculty to celebrate the school’s new relationship with the Tampa Bay Lightning by attending a game sponsored by the school - Tampa Prep Night at the Lightning on Saturday, January 17.
All of these exciting announcements are in celebration of Tampa Prep’s Anniversary; the School prides itself on putting students first. The mission of Tampa Prep, “a preparation for life with a higher purpose than self,” has been the foundation for a Tampa Prep education since the School’s inception.
“I am very excited to celebrate Tampa Prep's 40 years in downtown Tampa. As a member of this community, Tampa Prep is grateful for the support and partnerships that have contributed to many of the unique accomplishments of the school and have made being a school located in downtown Tampa a wonderful experience. We are proud of our city and our partnerships with the community and look forward to continuing these relationships for years to come as we continue to do ‘what's best for students’ for 40 more years,” said Head of School Kevin Plummer.
Since 1974, Tampa Prep has been dedicated to educating centered, inquisitive and selfless students through diverse experiences and people. Tampa Prep’s founders were drawn to the idea of a non-denominational, independent secondary school rigorous in its college-preparatory curriculum and also committed to the arts and athletics.
The Tampa Prep campus has grown significantly since the school began at the University of Tampa. In 2002, Tampa Prep moved across the street to its current location — a custom-designed campus on the Hillsborough River.
Today, the 150,000 square-foot campus provides Tampa Prep students an unparalleled learning environment and unsurpassed amenities. The School’s proximity to the many cultural assets of the city of Tampa affords access for both students and teachers to all of the incredible opportunities throughout Tampa Bay. Students continue to give back to the community that has given them so many incredible experiences through countless hours of community service with organizations in Tampa Bay.
With a special 40th Anniversary Convocation, students began the school year reflecting on the school’s history and mission with speakers and honored guests, who have impacted and shaped Tampa Prep from the very beginning. The Tampa Prep community will continue to celebrate its anniversary throughout the year by carrying the theme of “living the mission for 40 years” through all events.
While reflecting back on the past 40 years, Tampa Prep remains committed to maintaining the tradition of excellence for future generations of Terrapins.
