We really want to transform the relationship people have with electricity in their home – from fear to trust. We believe that no one should have to worry about the dangers their electrical outlets pose to their loved ones.
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) November 20, 2014
Brio, the company behind the world’s safest, smartest electrical power outlet and connected home safety solution, is announcing the launch of its first commercial products with a 30-day Kickstarter campaign. Brio Safe provides wall-to-wall peace of mind in the home by defaulting the everyday wall outlet to an ‘off’ state. The second product, Brio Smart, has app-enabled embedded wireless technology that allows it to communicate with sensors for smoke, carbon monoxide and flood protection. As an innovator in multi-functional home safety, Brio is committed to delivering a transformative safety net of smart technology to your home.
A standard 120V electrical outlet is constantly in the ‘on’ state, actively transmitting a dangerous electrical current to all wall outlets at any given time. According to the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFi), every month nearly 200 children are treated in hospital emergency rooms for electrical shock or burn injuries caused by tampering with a wall outlet. It is also reported that 70 percent of child-related electrical accidents occur at home. By using patented microcontroller technology, Brio outlets sense when an object is plugged in and turned on, therefore requesting the electric current from the wall.
Installed into the wall, Brio Safe replaces existing electrical outlets and features a sleek, round design to emulate Brio’s modern take on an outdated technology. The innovative round, beveled design reinvents the traditional wall outlet, and enhances a home’s décor, while providing a new level of smart and safe home protection.
“Brio aims to change an archaic way of thinking about electricity in the home,” says Jocelyn Painter, Spokesperson for Brio. “The outlet system we currently use now has been in place for more than 80 years and no one has ever questioned it. We really want to transform the relationship people have with electricity in their home – from fear to trust. We believe that no one should have to worry about the dangers their electrical outlets pose to their loved ones.”
Brio Smart will add flood, fire and carbon monoxide detection to the Safe model. Brio Smart works with connected home technology, bringing the home together by collecting information from active sensors around the house and sending the information directly to the consumer's smart phone. Brio Smart creates a “Home, Safe Home” environment for consumers, in and out of their homes.
To introduce Brio to the public, a 30-day Kickstarter campaign will launch to raise funds to move Brio into the manufacturing stage of product development. Backers will have the opportunity to pledge for Brio outlets and pre-orders will be available to the general public via the Brio website after the campaign closes. Brio expects to fill pre-orders by May 2015.
In addition to the Kickstarter campaign, the Brio team will be attending multiple Consumer Electronic Show (CES) events to demonstrate the safe outlet technology and connected home system, as well as introduce and educate both buyers and the media about their product. CES Unveiled in New York and Las Vegas will serve as a sneak peek at the year’s most innovative products and technologies that will be exhibited at 2015 International CES this coming January.
Both Brio Safe and Brio Smart have received Honoree status in three different categories for the 2015 CES. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade media, to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 28 product categories. With awards in the Tech for a Better World, Home Appliances, and Accessible Technologies categories, both Brio Safe and Brio Smart have been awarded among the best that will be exhibiting at International CES and will be displayed in the Innovation Awards Showcase at the show.
Also in Las Vegas, Brio will be exhibiting at the International Builders Show (IBS) in January 2015. IBS is the largest annual light construction show in the world, geared towards design and construction professionals.

Brio: Home, Safe Home.
Brio is the world’s safest, smartest power outlet and connected home safety solution. Brio has taken a dangerous, yet ubiquitous, household fixture and eliminated risk of shock. By using patented microcontroller technology to sense when an object is plugged into the outlet, Brio Safe virtually eliminates risk of electric shock at the outlet to small children, pets or adults, recognizing between things that need power and people that need protection. Brio Smart uses advanced wireless innovations and mobile technology to combine the typical functionality of an everyday household appliance with smoke detection, carbon monoxide monitoring and flood detection.
According to the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFi), every month nearly 200 children are treated in hospital emergency rooms for electrical shock or burn injuries caused by tampering with a wall outlet. Since the modern outlet came into use more than 80 years ago, we have been boxed into a basic utilitarian form factor and functionality - now Brio changes that.
