From lavish salon treatments to simple heat-styling in the morning, the time, money and effort that many women invest on their hair hint at how much they value their crowning glory. In fact, according to a survey made by a leading manufacturer of hair care products, the average British woman spends about £27,722.52 (about $42,000) on her hair throughout her lifetime.

Lola Akingbola knows that a person’s hair can be a great asset and a source of confidence; she also knows that proper hair care is more than just shelling out money on expensive products or treatments. For this twenty-something blogger-turned-author, hair care became a personal statement, her way of embracing her natural Nigerian kinks and curls and declaring proudly to others that curly hair can be just as healthy, strong and long as other hair types. In her new book, “8 Weeks to Longer Hair!” she shares her hair care journey and, more importantly, some tips and tricks for other Afro-Caribbean women who want to achieve their hair goals.

“Many people have asked me questions in person and on my blog and it seems like there is never enough time to tell them everything. This book lays out steps in an easy to follow manner… It is about building a daily and weekly plan for achieving your hair goals,” Akingbola says.

Akingbola shares that she has always wanted to have longer locks but had no idea how to make it happen with her kinky and curly hair. In 2008, she started researching about black hair care and soon started her own personal blog devoted to chronicling her journey toward healthy and longer hair, her unique regimen and the products she finds effective. In her book, she guides readers in the first steps of their hair journey, provides personally tried tips and techniques and dispels the fallacies and misconceptions of hair care.

An empowering and practical guide, “8 Weeks to Longer Hair!” is a must-have for any woman who wants to love and care for their natural hair in the best possible way.
