Mr. Kevin Plummer and Mr. Jeff Vinik welcome Tampa Prep to Amalie Arena
We are happy to partner with an outstanding school like Prep as we applaud Head of School Mr. Plummer and all of the faculty for their dedication to improving the lives of the students.
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) January 23, 2015
In honor of Tampa Preparatory School’s 40th Anniversary, the school is excited to announce a new partnership with the Tampa Bay Lightning. To celebrate Tampa Prep’s 40th Anniversary, the school sponsored Tampa Prep Night at the Lightning during last Saturday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche. Tampa Prep sold over 850 tickets to the game, hosting faculty members, alumni, families and friends for a pre-party and two private receptions at Amalie Arena.
Lightning fans were greeted on Thunder Alley with a robotics demonstration, giveaways and a raffle for a week free at Tampa Prep’s Camp Terrapin. Highlighting the award-winning robotics program at Tampa Prep, Lightning fans could test drive student-built robots and watch themselves on the live video feed filmed by Tampa Prep TPTV students during the demonstration. Tampa Prep's mascot Earnest joined the Lightning’s ThunderBug, beating the drum as the Arena opened its doors to excited fans!
After checking out the Thunder Alley display, Terrapins headed up to the Bud Light Party Deck for a pre-party like no other. Head of School Mr. Kevin Plummer and Prep parent and Lightning owner, Mr. Jeff Vinik, welcomed Tampa Prep attendees to Amalie Arena. Both men expressed their excitement for the upcoming game and the continued Tampa Prep and Lightning partnership.
Mr. Jeff Vinik said, "It was the Lightning's pleasure to host Tampa Prep at Amalie Arena for our game against the Avalanche last week. We are happy to partner with an outstanding school like Prep as we applaud Head of School Mr. Plummer and all of the faculty for their dedication to improving the lives of the students."
Tampa Prep attendees could be seen all over Amalie Arena. The Terrapins stood out amongst the Lightning fans in matching Tampa Prep Night at the Lightning T-shirts. Throughout the first period, TPTV students interviewed Lightning fans about their favorite players and cheers to spotlight Tampa Prep’s incredible Video Production program. Additional student showcases included a Tampa Prep senior as the Lightning’s Social Media Captain of the Game, four chorus students impressing the crowd with their a cappella version of The Star Spangled Banner and two robotics demonstrations.
After an exciting first period, robotics students and Mr. Plummer took to the ice for a Man vs. Machine shootout between a student-built robot and Mr. Plummer. Following the shootout, Tampa Prep students and the mascot Earnest represented the school on a ride on the Fan Zamboni.
Mr. Kevin Plummer said, “We are here to celebrate, with pride, our history and accomplishments. However, I know, we are most excited about the days and years ahead. One of our first decisions to kick off our next 40 years was to demonstrate our commitment to Tampa’s downtown community. It was an easy decision for us to partner with the Tampa Bay Lightning, a world-class organization. This partnership gives us an awesome platform to celebrate our 40th anniversary and demonstrate our commitment to the local community.”
This game signified the beginning of an important partnership between Tampa Preparatory School and the Tampa Bay Lightning. After being incorporated into many aspects of the Lightning game, the Terrapins celebrated their 40th Anniversary with a Lightning overtime win against the Colorado Avalanche!
