Data Shows Edsby Deployment at Hillsborough County Among Most Significant Learning Management Systems in K-12

But at Hillsborough County Public Schools in Florida, the eighth-largest district in the U.S., teachers, students and parents are making wide and ever-increasing use of their online gradebook and parent portal solution, Edsby.
Edsby, a cloud-based learning management system (LMS) that connects students, teachers and parents using modern technologies while synchronized with the district’s student information system, today released data showing significant utilization by Hillsborough in the first half of the 2014-15 academic year.
Of the 274,000 active student, staff and parent Edsby users at Hillsborough, usage data show more than 81,000 of them log in to Edsby at least once a week. The Edsby Hillsborough system serves an average of 20 million requests every school day, with an independently measured response time averaging only 280 milliseconds. The amount of Edsby data served daily to Hillsborough users would create a printed stack of lesson plans and assignments as tall as a 43-floor building every day.
Independent monitoring by Internet measurement company Pingdom reveals 99.98 percent Edsby server uptime in the first half of the 2014-15 academic year, a contrast to acknowledged struggles other LMSes have in staying online consistently.

“Based on sheer numbers and scale of the operation, Hillsborough County is one of the most significant enterprise software deployment successes in K-12,” said Steven Asbury, vice president of engineering at Edsby. “Students, parents and teachers are very clearly using the system, unlike other programs which end up as shelfware.”
In this, its second year of using Edsby, Hillsborough County has also seen a significant increase in student participation as some teachers have begun to leverage the LMS’s social learning features to interact with students for instruction. Student posts in Edsby classrooms and groups are up 186 percent this school year versus the year previous, with teacher postings up 38 percent.
“Edsby has become a permanent fixture in my classroom. It is very easy to upload documents so that students can access the documents and complete tasks in the class or at home. I recommend Edsby to help students become self-initiated learners,” said Ira Glover, a teacher at Franklin Middle Magnet School in Tampa, Florida.
Usage data shows that 47 percent of Hillsborough Edsby logins are from mobile platforms, and that students are taking advantage of new BYOD policies and constantly using Edsby from their phones, iPods, tablets and laptops. Hillsborough students that use Edsby check it an average of 5 times a day, according to logs. Many Hillsborough students assert they use Edsby more than social media systems such as Facebook or Twitter.
