Gilberto Salazar Escoboza has sponsored scholarships for ten middle school and high school students, each of whom will receive 1,000 pesos per month through the Bancomer BBVA Foundation program Por los que se quedan - For those who stay, which assists and encourages dedicated students to stay in school . On Jan. 9, 2015, Sonoran Governor Guillermo Padrés Elias presented 543 new scholarships from the BBVA to under-privileged students, 294 of which were to middle school students through the Por los que se quedan program. Salazar is an active member of the Bancomer Board of Directors and supports its programs to assist underprivileged students committed to achieving a basic and higher education.
In addition to Gilberto Salazar Escoboza’s contributions to BBVA programs, he offers a number of scholarships to qualifying children of Videxport field workers. The children selected for the scholarships must be continuously enrolled in school and maintain an acceptable grade point average (at least an 8.5 in the 10-point system). While school funds are provided by the Mexican government, these scholarships are paid directly to the students and parents for use in other educational and extracurricular needs, such as the purchase of school supplies and study aids.
