Pearson’s PowerSchool Achieves Oracle Exadata Optimized Status
New York (PRWEB) March 03, 2015 -- Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, announced today that as the result of rigorous testing, its PowerSchool 8.1 student information system (SIS) achieved Oracle Exadata Optimized status, allowing it to rapidly build and deliver faster, more reliable applications.
Oracle Exastack is an Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) program that provides Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and other OPN members with a complete, scalable, integrated and high-performance infrastructure for their on-premise, cloud-based and hybrid environments. Pearson’s PowerSchool is a widely-used K-12 SIS. Pearson is a Gold level member of OPN.
“We are extremely proud that after a diligent testing and tuning process on Oracle Exadata Database Machine, PowerSchool has achieved Oracle Exadata Optimized status. Reaching this level of optimization means that our student information system delivers incredible speed, scalability and reliability to our customers,” said Oliver Wreford, vice president of product and marketing at Pearson.
With Oracle Exadata Database Machine, ISVs can reduce the cost, time and support complexities typically associated with building and maintaining a disparate application infrastructure – allowing them to focus on core competencies, accelerating innovation and delivering superior value to their customers. Oracle Exadata Optimized establishes that PowerSchool software was tested and tuned on the Oracle Exadata Database Machine, and is supported on high performing, scalable and secure Oracle engineered systems.
“Our ongoing investment in PowerSchool and the decision to participate in the Oracle Exastack program illustrates Pearson’s commitment to providing a powerful, reliable SIS to support school and classroom management activities including grading, attendance and state reporting,” said Bryan MacDonald, managing director of Pearson School Systems.
Customers can be confident that PowerSchool 8.1 has been tested and tuned for optimum performance. The Oracle Exadata Database Machine delivers extreme performance and is the ideal database platform for OLTP applications, data warehouses as well as the varied and unpredictable workloads of cloud computing. It is a complete package of servers, storage, networking, and software that is massively scalable, secure and redundant.
“Oracle Exastack Optimized recognizes partners who have optimized their solutions on a complete, integrated and cloud-ready infrastructure in order to help them accelerate innovation, unlock new features and functionality, and deliver superior value to users,” said David Hicks, vice president, Worldwide ISV, OEM and Java Business Development, Oracle. “By achieving Oracle Exadata Optimized status, Pearson has demonstrated its PowerSchool version 8.1 is tested and tuned to work with Oracle Exadata Database Machine to help deliver optimum performance, scalability, and reliability to its customers.”
The following results were achieved during testing of PowerSchool 8.1 tasks running on the Oracle Exadata Database Machine:
▪ Achieved 11X increase in database transactions per second, demonstrating capability to support 150K enrollment.
▪ 103X data compression and 34X less logical reads when doing a full table scan, enabling cost savings and faster query and report processing.
PowerSchool 8.1 supports more than 13 million students in all 50 states and provinces and more than 70 countries. It enables today's educators to make timely decisions that impact student performance while creating a collaborative environment for parents, teachers and students to work together in preparing 21st century learners for the future.
