Lucian Grainge CBE Announced as Recipient of the 2015 Creative Fusion Award at The Sixth Annual BritWeek UKTI Business Innovation Awards
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 05, 2015 -- BritWeek and UK Trade & Investment are pleased to announce Lucian Grainge CBE, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company, will receive the 2015 Creative Fusion Award at the BritWeek UKTI Business Innovation Awards, presented by Virgin Atlantic.
The BritWeek UKTI Business Innovation Awards competition, which is open for nominations until midnight PST on March 6, 2015, was created by UK Trade & Investment and BritWeek (including BritWeek founders Bob Peirce and Nigel Lythgoe) to celebrate the unique and pivotal business relationship between the UK and California. The winning companies are recognized for their innovations in design, technology, services or social impact.
The Creative Fusion Award is a special award which recognizes an individual who exemplifies the special creative relationship between the UK and California, and whose creative talents and business acumen have had a profound impact on the way we live, work, and play. Previous Creative Fusion Award recipients include Simon Cowell and Paul Oakenfold.
This year's recipient of The Creative Fusion Award, Grainge has more than 30 years in the music industry, having helped build the careers of artists including Amy Winehouse, Eurythmics, Sting and Andrea Bocelli. In recent years he led Universal Music Group's acquisition and revival the iconic British music company EMI and Capitol Records. That new vitality helped spark last year’s remarkable rise of British artist Sam Smith to become 2014’s biggest-selling debut artist in the U.S. and winner of Grammy awards including Best New Artist, Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
In 2010, Mr. Grainge was awarded a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in recognition of his contributions to the creative industries and in 2012 he was appointed a UK Business Ambassador by Prime Minister David Cameron. Mr. Grainge topped Billboard’s 2015 Power 100 list of the most influential people in music, becoming the only person to ever rank No. 1 twice. “In the age of Spotify, YouTube and Shazam, Grainge is positioned to tackle his business’ overriding priority: win fair compensation for artists,” Billboard wrote.
“I am honored to except the 2015 Creative Fusion Award,” said Grainge. “Anglo-American partnerships are responsible for some of the most influential and successful music and other forms of creative expression the world has ever known. I am delighted organizations like BritWeek and UK Trade & Investment champion that unique bond between the UK and US.”
Mr. Grainge serves on the boards of DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. and Northeastern University in Boston. He will be presented with The Creative Fusion Award at the BritWeek UKTI Business Innovation Awards Dinner at The Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills on April 23, 2015.
