Kate Atwood, Founder of Kate’s Club, Nominated for DVF People's Voice Award
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 16, 2015 -- Kate Atwood, founder of Kate’s Club, has been nominated for the prestigious DVF People's Voice Award. Kate Atwood and Kate’s Club are honored to be considered and to have an opportunity to elevate the issue of childhood grief on a national stage. The People's Voice Award is chosen by popular vote from four nominees based in the United States. Voting is open to the public and the award is granted to the woman who receives the most votes.
The DVF Awards were created in 2010 by Diane von Furstenberg and the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation. Each honoree will receive $50,000 from the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation to further her work at the organization with which she is affiliated, and will be recognized at an awards ceremony on Thursday, April 23 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on the occasion of the Women in the World conference
Kate Atwood started Kate’s Club in 2003, creating a sanctuary for grieving youth and providing a supportive network that empowers children and teens while rallying families and partners. The organization provides youth with a positive community, an outlet for emotional expression and healthy coping skills. One in 20 children nationwide will lose a parent or sibling by age 18. For Atlanta, those statistics equate to more than 40,000 children who will or have suffered a loss of a parent or sibling.

Founded in 2003, Kate’s Club is an Atlanta‐based non‐profit organization whose mission is to empower children facing life after the death of a parent or sibling. Kate’s Club provides social and emotional grief support services to children ages 5 – 18 in metropolitan Atlanta and surrounding areas, at no cost to the child’s family.
