Today, most educational institutions have application interfaces that routinely send CSV files, XML data and other file formats to different external systems. Some of the common systems to which institutions send data include Parking Systems, Housing Systems, ID card systems, CRMs, LMS’s and more. While exchanging data is an integral part of an integrated educational enterprise, some IT departments don’t realize the threat that each of these data transfers could cause to student data. For example, an external system can accidentally expose the Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or protected educational records (FERPA) of students to a malicious third party, thus possibly creating great risks to the students and the institution. Managing these transfers and sending only the data that is needed, and masking sensitive fields, can dramatically lower their risk.
According to Kiran Kodithala, N2N's CEO - "Many institutions have decent FERPA agreements with partners and providers, but there is no real way to enforce this compliance when sending data over cloud."
Joel Dunn, N2N's VP of Technology added - "N2N is committed to providing a secure, integrated education ecosystem, and the FERPA compliance engine has been added to the N2N Integration Cloud to showcase our commitment and vision".
N2N heard these concerns from CIOs and CISOs and is pleased to announce that the N2N Integration Cloud (NIC) now offers a secure “dataport” to address this challenge. It’s much like an airport or train station where you match travelers to documents for secure journeys. Here, it makes data transfers between SaaS and on-premise interfaces FERPA compliant by ensuring that only the required data is transferred, and the transfer is logged.
N2N has recently entered into agreements with many Universities and leading edtech SaaS providers to support turnkey integrations at Higher education institutions. N2N has supported over 120 institutions since 2011 and some of their strategic customers include University of Toledo, University System of Georgia, Northeastern University, Brandman University and University of North Georgia. In addition to Higher Education institutions, N2N is used by several edtech SaaS providers - some of them include AuguSoft, Decision Desk, Instructure and Regent Education.
