Gardasil 9, the first nine-valent HPV vaccine, has been granted a positive opinion by The European Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use, according to a report published on on March 27, 2015. (1) The CBCD still recommends effective, natural HPV remedies.

After the approval of a new version of Gardasil on December 2014 by the FDA, The European Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) granted a positive opinion for Gardasil 9, the first nine-valent HPV vaccine. “The opinion recommends marketing authorization for active immunization of females and males from the age of 9 years against premalignant lesions and cancers affecting the cervix, vulva, vagina and anus caused by vaccine HPV types and genital warts (Condyloma acuminata) caused by specific HPV types.” (1) According to the makers of the vaccine, Gardasil 9 is effective against 9 strains of HPV. This is compared to the original Gardasil, which only covered 4 strains of the virus. The study that led to the vaccine’s approval included 14,215 women. The researchers reported that Gardasil 9 prevented cervical, vulvar and vaginal disease associated with HPV-31, 33, 45, 52 and 58 as well as the HPV types covered by the older version, 6, 11, 16 and 18. (See the New England Journal of Medicine from February 19, 2015) (2) Importantly, Dr. Elmar A. Joura and colleagues wrote that Gardasil 9 “did not prevent infection and disease related to HPV types beyond the nine types covered by the vaccine.” (2) The new formulation was developed by Merck Pharmaceuticals (MRK). Merck Pharmaceuticals also funded the study.

“We at the Center are encouraged that Gardasil 9 is effective against 5 more strains of the HPV virus. However, clearly, neither the original Gardasil, nor the new Gardasil 9, can protect against all HPV types. Moreover, the public in Europe, and elsewhere, should be aware that to date, there are no vaccines that prevent disease in those who are already infected.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

Neither vaccine treats cervical cancer or genital warts. (See, the 'About Us' page) (3)

As the Gardasil website points out: “Gardasil may not fully protect everyone, nor will it protect against diseases caused by other HPV types or against diseases not caused by HPV. Gardasil does not prevent all types of cervical cancer, so future cervical cancer screenings will be important for your daughter. Gardasil does not treat cervical cancer or genital warts.” (3)

The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) therefore recommends that men and women infected with HPV take Novirin. The formula of this natural antiviral product was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the Novirin formula is effective against the HPV and other viruses. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy. The first study was published in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs.

Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with the HPV…reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with (the formula of Novirin).” (4) The study authors also wrote that “we observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (4)

Novirin can be ordered online on the Novirin website here:

Novirin is a natural antiviral dietary supplement. Its formula contains five natural ingredients: Selenium, Camellia Sinesis Extract, Quercetin, Cinnamomum Extract, and Licorice Extract. The first ingredient is a trace element, and the other four are plant extracts. Each ingredient and its dose were chosen through a scientific approach. Scientists at polyDNA, the company that invented and patented the formula, scanned thousands of scientific and medical papers published in various medical and scientific journals, and identified the safest and most effective natural ingredients against latent viruses.

To date, Novirin is the only natural antiviral product on the market with published clinical studies that support its claims.

The new HPV vaccine is approved for both males, ages 9 through 15 years and females 9 through 26 years. (See the FDA, from December 10, 2014) (5) “Gardasil 9 is administered as three separate shots, with the initial dose followed by additional shots given two and six months later. For all of the indications for use approved by the FDA, Gardasil 9’s full potential for benefit is obtained by those who are vaccinated prior to becoming infected with the HPV strains covered by the vaccine.” (5)

“The FDA’s statement basically means that if someone is already infected with one of the HPV strains the vaccine will not protect them against cancer or genital warts.” - Greg Bennett, CBCD

What other treatments are available against the HPV?

“There are no drugs approved against the HPV. Current treatments include procedures, such as cryotherapy, conization, and the Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP). These procedures use liquid nitrogen, a surgical knife (scalpel), a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, or electrical current to remove the abnormal growths caused by the HPV. These growths include cells that harbor the active virus. The procedures do not target cells with the latent virus. Since they do not remove the latent virus, these procedures only produce a temporary remission.” (4)

In contrast, Novirin was designed to target the latent HPV.
