Abt Associates will provide water treatment cost models and regulatory analysis tools under a new blanket purchase agreement with the EPA’s Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water.

To help the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulate contaminates in drinking water, Abt Associates will provide water treatment cost models and regulatory analysis tools under a new blanket purchase agreement with the EPA’s Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water, which develops national drinking water regulations.

Under the Safe Water Drinking Act, the EPA must determine which drinking water contaminants to regulate and the associated costs. Abt Associates will develop water treatment cost models, conduct analysis of contaminants in drinking water, identify the effective technologies to treat the water, and estimate regulatory costs and benefits, among other tasks.

“Abt Associates is committed to supporting the U.S. EPA's Office of Drinking Water's regulatory mission. Our team of engineers, programmers and economists will help the EPA generate the most accurate and transparent cost estimates of drinking water contaminants using cutting-edge regulatory analysis tools,” said Dr. Joshua Lipton, vice president for Abt’s Environment and Natural Resources Division.

Dr. Shannon Ragland, a senior associate at Abt Associates, will lead the project.
