It is crucial that the communications between cars be protected from attacks such as eavesdropping, spoofing, alteration and replay
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) April 16, 2015
Security Innovation, a trailblazer in automotive and software security, announced today that it will be participating in the SAE World Congress in Detroit, MI., April 21 - 23, 2015. Dr. William Whyte, Security Innovation’s Chief Scientist, and Dr. Virendra Kumar, Research Scientist, will present their research paper Performance Analysis of Existing 1609.2 Encodings v ASN.1 on April 22nd 2015 at 8 am.
Dr. Whyte and Dr. Kumar will be showing the impact on the performance of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications security of changing from the existing proprietary data structures to using the standard ASN.1 presentation language. These research findings directly impacted the IEEE 1609.2 standard that will be used to secure V2V communications and led to the decision to migrate IEEE 1609.2 to use ASN.1. The US Department of Transportation is expected to mandate V2V communications in the near future.
The SAE 2015 World Congress brings top talent in the automotive industry, from engineers to executives to exchange ideas about the future of the automotive industry. This year’s theme, Leading Mobility Innovation, expresses the dawning of a new day in the automotive industry, of which V2V communications and connected cars are a major part.
“It is crucial that the communications between cars be protected from attacks such as eavesdropping, spoofing, alteration and replay,” said William Whyte, Chief Scientist, Security Innovation. “The mechanism used to authenticate messages must be as flexible and scalable as possible and ASN.1 encoding will help. Conferences like this bring the industry together to learn about the latest research, like ours, and discuss actionable solutions that address real challenges in the emerging automotive cybersecurity industry,” Whyte concluded.
Sessions at the show will include:
- Cybersecurity for Cyber-Physical Vehicle Systems
- With connectivity, comes risks - cybersecurity and safety
- Chat with the Experts: Connected Vehicle
- Vehicle to Vehicle and Vehicle to Infrastructure
