Toolwire Wins Two 2015 International Serious Play Awards
Pleasanton, Calif. (PRWEB) June 30, 2015 -- Toolwire, a leading game-based learning provider, has won two silver medals at the 2015 International Serious Play Awards for its Writing Game Series and Virtual Medical Internship products. The awards program is presented by the Serious Games Association to honor outstanding titles that deliver high-quality engagement and measurable training or learning opportunities.
“Toolwire has delivered more than 600 million minutes of game-based learning and simulation experiences since 2011,” said Toolwire CEO and President John Valencia. “After over a decade developing games and simulations as custom client solutions, we’ve recently channeled this experience into off-the-shelf games for education. To receive this recognition from the Serious Games Association for our two latest products is truly a great honor.”
Providing a “virtual internship” experience at a fictional television news station, Toolwire’s Writing Games challenge students to review, practice, and demonstrate college level writing skills in authentic workplace scenarios. Each game takes about 20 minutes to complete and targets one to three specific learning objectives. These games deliver personalized learning with built-in formative assessments, dynamic remediation, and performance analytics that measure outcomes as students build skills and knowledge.
The Virtual Medical Internship features three modules that prepare students for an internship in the medical profession using first-person point-of-view gameplay in a realistic hospital setting. Taking approximately 40 minutes to complete, these “virtual internship” experiences support the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Health Science and Medical Technology (HSMT) Anchor Standards such as Communication, Problem Solving and Critical Thinking, Health and Safety, Responsibility and Flexibility, Ethics and Legal Responsibilities, and Leadership and Teamwork.
“Today’s students in Secondary and Post-Secondary education have grown up playing games in Primary school, where game-based learning is now increasingly well established,” said Toolwire Executive Vice President Cameron D. Crowe. “As students grow older, keeping learning relevant and engaging is more challenging. Toolwire’s photo-realistic games, with live action video filmed on-location, provide authentic and believable experiences that motivate students to learn by showing them how course learning objectives apply to real-world workplace situations.”
Winners were selected by a committee of top-tier academic, business and government leaders at the forefront of serious game development and will be honored at the Serious Play Conference (July 21-23), which will be held at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Toolwire will be attending the event to meet with educators and game-based learning leaders.
