Douglas Magnus Unveils Unique Jewelry Collection at Sorrel Sky Gallery
Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) July 01, 2015 -- Sorrel Sky Gallery of Santa Fe is currently showcasing a new jewelry collection by Douglas Magnus. The Castilian Cerrillos collection features rare Cerrillos turquoise sourced from one of North America’s oldest mines and used by ancient people over 1000 years ago.
The Castilian Cerrillos collection presents Magnus’s stunning designs using the rare turquoise set in 18 karat gold and occasionally accompanied by diamonds to highlight the precious nature of the turquoise gem. The collection presents rings, pendants, necklaces and pins. Magnus is well known for his commemorative jewelry collection celebrating the 400th anniversary of the founding of Santa Fe, and for his jewelry line celebrating New Mexico’s 100 anniversary of statehood.
A man of many passions, Magnus’ interest in turquoise goes well beyond the intense, clear blue beauty of the gemstone - he owns three of the fabled Cerrillos mines located on Turquoise Hill near Santa Fe. These mines, though no longer active, have produced some of the most prized and extraordinary turquoise found in the North America. The gem was traded with the ancient Mexican Indians and was sought after by the Tiffany Company in the late 1800s. Cerrillos turquoise was used in one of the company’s award-winning vessels displayed at the 1879 Paris Exposition.
