Abington Hospital Recognized by CDC for Diabetes Prevention Program
Abington, PA (PRWEB) September 11, 2015 -- Abington Hospital – Jefferson Health is pleased to announce that it has achieved Full Recognition status from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Diabetes Prevention Recognition Program (DPRP).
The DPRP is a key component of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, a yearlong, evidence-based lifestyle change program that reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes for adults. The DPRP collects and analyzes data to decide whether organizations meet the National DPP recognition program’s standards, therefore demonstrating effective delivery of the proven program to prevent type 2 diabetes.
“Achieving Full Recognition from the CDC reflects the high quality of Abington’s Diabetes Prevention Program as well as our staff’s consistent commitment to our patients’ long-term health,” said Meg McGoldrick, president of Abington – Jefferson Health.
Abington Hospital has demonstrated its capacity to deliver a quality program and support individuals with prediabetes in making achievable and realistic lifestyle changes that help to cut their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. According to the Diabetes Care journal, “the highly successful lifestyle intervention…resulted in a 58 percent reduction in the incidence rate of diabetes.”
DPRP Full Recognition markers include attendance rates above 80 percent, weight loss of greater than 5 percent and physical activity minutes reported at least 60 percent of the time over the course of the yearlong program.
