KLD Energy Technologies, Inc. Acquires Texas-Based Mobility Vehicle Designer Kenguru, Inc.
Austin, TX (PRWEB) September 16, 2015 -- KLD Energy Technologies, Inc. (KLD) has announced that it has recently acquired Kenguru, Inc. (Kenguru), a leader in design and concept of eco-friendly vehicles for people in wheelchairs.
Kenguru is the developer of a first-of-its-kind affordable and revolutionary wheelchair-accessible commuter vehicle. Utilizing an all-electric, front-wheel drive platform, the vehicle is powered by the patented KLD oneDRIVE™ system and features a unique rear-entry lift-gate and ramp, making access convenient for members of the wheelchair community.
“Kenguru is a natural fit for KLD and complements our broad portfolio of world-class electric motor system products, services and technologies,” said Christian Okonsky, Founder and CEO of KLD Energy Technologies. “I’m confident this acquisition will help us extend our core business into the growing area of electric commuter vehicles for our fellow citizens with specific mobility and accessibility needs.”
Founded by Istvan Kissaroslaki, Kenguru helps address the needs of a traditionally underserved market segment. “With over 10 million people in Europe and the US in wheelchairs, Kenguru helps satisfy the needs of independence-minded individuals seeking affordable, attractive and eco-friendly mobility solutions.” Kissaroslaki said. “We look forward to the fusion with KLD which will accelerate the provision to consumers of a low-cost, intelligent alternative to traditionally expensive retrofitted vehicles,” he added.
KLD is a leading electric motor systems provider, and with a series of recent advances in the electric vehicle and electric energy storage sectors, the company is well-positioned for future growth. Kenguru is currently developing the next-generation of its vehicle platform and is slated to release production in mid-2016 in the US, with European sales to follow shortly thereafter. The company will be accepting reservations for the vehicle via their website - http://www.kenguru.com
“Together, we’ll offer a unique and affordable mobility solution to customers in wheelchairs that are currently challenged in their ability to self-transport conveniently and flexibly, and for which traditional mobility solutions have been often outside of their financial reach,” Okonsky added.
Stacy Zoern, President of Kenguru, said, “As global mobility needs and accessibility concerns continue to rise, this marriage with KLD will strengthen our competitive posture, enabling sustained, profitable growth and positioning Kenguru to deliver significant value for customers, shareholders and employees alike,”
With a focus on affordability, a main attribute of the Kenguru is that it will come at little to no cost for disabled veterans. Qualified veterans may choose to utilize the Veterans Benefits Administration Automobile Allowance program to purchase a Kenguru. The program provides qualifying disabled service members and veterans an allowance toward the purchase of an automobile, as well as a separate appropriation for modifications and enhancements.
Kenguru is currently discussing arrangements with select National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) dealers to provide regional sales and service channels for the vehicle.
Retired Army General Wesley Clark, an advisor to KLD, recently stated “This specific project with Kenguru is incredible. With every vehicle designed for enhanced mobility, we are showing much needed support for our veterans and disabled citizens.”
As a company committed to public service and charities, KLD will donate a portion of proceeds from each Kenguru vehicle sale to the Walkabout Foundation. Also, for every fifty vehicles sold, KLD will donate a Kenguru to a worthy cause or individual.
Kenguru will be present at REHACARE 2015 in Dusseldorf, Germany, one of the world's largest international trade fairs for rehabilitation, prevention, inclusion and care at Hall 4, Stand G39 from Oct 14-17, 2015.
