Lester Senior Housing Community to Participate in National Assisted Living Week®, Sept. 13-18 at Its Josh & Judy Heller Assisted Living Residence

(PRWEB) September 16, 2015 -- The assisted living residents at the Lester Senior Housing Community in Whippany, N.J. will enjoy a week of engaging programs and fun activities when the residence participants in the annual National Assisted Living Week. The annual event will be held from September 13-18, 2015. Lester Senior Housing Community, which is owned and managed by The Jewish Community Housing Corporation of Metropolitan New Jersey (JCHC), offers both assisted and independent living options for discerning seniors. This year’s theme is “Nourishing Life: Mind, Body, Spirit.” In keeping with this theme, the senior living community will hold a mix of religious observances and cultural, creative and entertainment programs all week.
“National Assisted Living Week® recognizes not only our wonderful assisted living residents but also our staff members who care for them and nurture them every day,” said Site Administrator Marlene Glass. “All residents at the Lester Senior Housing Community have a wide range of activities available to them weekly that are designed to nourish their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual lives.”
This year, National Assisted Living Week falls during the Jewish High Holy Day period; the Lester Congregation held its Rosh Hashanah services, a Torah study group and shofar blowing as part of the holiday observances. The residence, which offers upscale senior living within a traditional Jewish context, has an on-site chapel and visiting rabbi; residents have access to the rabbi’s pastoral and other services throughout the year and the community holds regularly scheduled Sabbath and holiday services.
As part of its nourishment of senior minds and bodies, the community will hold educational and cultural presentations, a Lifelong Learning class—a hallmark of senior engagement at JCHC communities—and socials. The popular memoir writing class, part of the creative arts programming facilitated by ART By the People will be held; the annual cocktail party will include with a magician performance, and the week ends with a festive BBQ with musical entertainment.
The Lester Senior Housing Community doesn’t limit its engaging lifestyle to just one week. The Activities Director schedules a full menu of creative, horticultural and fine arts programs, and educational and cultural seminars; and JCHC University and the Lifelong Learning program are among the many ways seniors are encouraged to stay active and vital in their later years. The community has a fully equipped exercise room, wellness center, game room, computers and other amenities for its residents to maintain a healthy level of physical activity and many opportunities for socializing. It also partners with the JCC MetroWest for joint programming for older adults.
