ITJobsWeb.com, the leading IT jobs website for IT professionals, reports a decrease of 0.02 percent in the number of IT job postings to its site for the month of August 2015 compared to the previous month.
August’s reported decrease in tech job postings is less significant than the decrease of 2.8 percent reported for the month of July.
The employment website’s decrease in job postings is inline with the the 52% decrease in the number of tech job gains for the month of August compared to the previous month, as reported by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday, September 4, 2015. According to the Economic Situation Report, the IT industry gained 6,800 jobs for the month of August across several industries, compared to the 14,100 jobs gained in July.
The data processing, hosting and related services industry grew by 0.54 percent or 1,600 jobs for the month of August. The subsector now sits at 299,500 jobs. Over the last 12 months the industry has increased by 6.47 percent, from 281,300 in August 2014. This industry data includes computer programmers, computer support specialists, computer systems analysts, application developers, and systems software developers.
The computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector, which includes computer hardware engineers, computer software engineers (applications and systems software), electrical and electronic engineering technicians and equipment assemblers, and semiconductor processors, decreased by 0.17 percent or 1,800 jobs over the previous month. Computer systems design and related services, a part of the professional and business services sector, grew by 0.37 percent or 7,000 jobs in August.
Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 173,000 jobs in August, while the unemployment rate declined by 0.2 percentage points to 5.1 percent. Over the last 12 months, employment growth has averaged 247,000 jobs per month. Job gains occurred in health care and social assistance, and in financial activities. Employment in manufacturing and mining declined.
