The PLP-CAT adds a new option to the market for broad area lightning protection

PLP-CAT systems use streamer discharge dissipation technology to reduce the probability of lightning strikes

LBA Technology, Inc. (LBA), a unit of LBA Group, Inc., announced a new addition to its PLP-Series of lightning protection products. The LBA research and development team created the PLP-CAT Fast Deployment Catenary Lightning Protection System. The proprietary design protects large objects or buildings across a wide area by utilizing an appropriate number of special PLP-Series masts and catenary wires between mast pairs.

The new PLP-CAT systems are ideal for protecting fuel or explosive storage facilities, temporary encampments, vehicle parks, and other facilities not amenable to stand alone lightning mast deployments. The systems are suitable for temporary or permanent installation, with non-penetrating base systems for roof mounting available.

“PLP-CAT systems use streamer discharge dissipation technology to reduce the probability of lightning strikes,” LBA Business Development Specialist Byron Johnson said. “These systems are also NFPA70 compliant for lightning strike termination,” Johnson added.

A PLP-CAT-35(480) lightning protection system with four catenary conductors 80’ (24.3m) long on 35’ (10.7m) masts will protect an area approximately 12,000 square feet (1115m2) to a height of 18’ (5.5m). This is just one application example based on NFPA’s 100’ (30.5m) rolling ball method of hazardous material protection prediction.

In most cases, PLP-CAT systems can be set up by four persons using hand tools in just a few hours. The patent-protected systems are reusable, light weight and easily transported. The highly portable lightning protection systems are supplied complete in man-carry cases. LBA expertly designs and manufactures these systems making customization for individual customer needs a convenient option.
