Delta Dental of California today lauded Covered California, the state’s marketplace for the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, for adding affordable adult dental plans for the 2016 plan year.
Delta Dental is one of five dental benefits companies offering “family dental plans” through Covered California this open enrollment period. The family dental plan offers dental coverage for both children and adults; adults can enroll in the family dental plan without enrolling the entire family. However, a medical plan must be purchased through Covered California in order to shop for and purchase an adult dental plan.
“Covered California is helping consumers by adding affordable adult dental options for the first time to its plan offerings for the upcoming open enrollment period that begins on November 1 and extends through January 31,” said Gary D. Radine, president and CEO of Delta Dental. “Our enterprise already covers 175,000 adults through public exchanges across the country, and we look forward to Covered California considerably adding to this total.”
Two Delta Dental family plans are available for purchase depending on where an enrollee lives. The Family Dental PPO allows patients to receive treatment from any licensed dentist, although the lowest out-of-pocket costs usually are obtained from visiting one of the more than 16,000 Delta Dental PPO (SM) dentists in California. The Family Dental HMO provides comprehensive dental benefits at fixed dollar copayments without any annual maximum for adults. Enrollees must select a dentist in the DeltaCare® USA network to provide their dental care.
Both family plans are available through the individual marketplace and the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) marketplace. In addition, Covered California offers the Children’s Dental HMO and the Children’s Dental PPO as a non-embedded option through the SHOP Marketplace.
Delta Dental’s PPO and DHMO both offer preventive and diagnostic coverage at no cost as well as a wide variety of other dental services.
