This December marks the 20th Anniversary of Americana Manhasset’s Champions for Charity® Annual Holiday Shopping Benefit.

“Giving back is part of our company DNA. Champions for Charity® has become a signature holiday event that brings our community together.” Deirdre Costa Major, President, Castagna Realty Retail Group

Americana Manhasset was one of the first shopping centers to embrace charity shopping, and is the only shopping center to partner with its tenants and offer a 25% pre-tax donation to charity. Since the programs inception in 1995, Champions for Charity® has raised $8.5 million for the not-for-profit community. “This year, our goal is to reach a cumulative $10 million 20-year total donation to over 100 local and national charity partners” notes Deirdre Costa Major, President, Castagna Realty Retail Group.

“Giving back is part of our company DNA. Champions for Charity® has become a signature holiday event that brings our community together.” Americana Manhasset is synonymous with fashion as well as philanthropy. When a new store opens at the shopping center, the opening event always benefits a not for profit organization. This was the seed for the Champions program. “We are more than a shopping center,” explains Ms. Major. “Our customers feel at home here. They come to enjoy our gardens and architecture, restaurants and the overall experience of strolling down the sidewalk while shopping in flagship boutiques.”

Americana Manhasset is home to over 60 leading fashion brands including Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, Hermes, Rolex, Cartier, Tiffany & Co. Fendi, Chanel, Gucci, Tory Burch, Salvatore Ferragmo, Brooks Brothers, Max Mara, Diane von Furstenberg, and more. All Americana Manhasset stores participate in Champions for Charity®, where 25% of full price, designated sales are donated to the participating charity of the shoppers’ choice.

“The Champions for Charity® program has become the gold standard for corporate and social responsibility.” states Claudio del Vechhio, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brooks Brothers. “We are proud to partner with Americana Manhasset and salute them for 20 years of giving back to the community.”

During the four-day program, which takes place on Thursday, December 3, Friday, December 4, Saturday, December 5 and Sunday December 6, shoppers enjoy special in-store charity receptions and festive holiday atmosphere abounds. “I can’t think of a better way to do my holiday shopping,” states Pauline Arama-Olsten, who shops for Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America as well as the Dysautonomia Youth Network of America (DYNA). “"This will be the seventh year that my daughter, Arlena Olsten and I have been blessed to participate in this incredible, innovative program. Each year we host a Champions kick off event at the Michael Kors store, the proceeds from which have allowed us to support causes that have personally affected our family."

Many charities have been participating since the start of the program. “It is wonderful that Champions for Charity® has been embraced by the community and has grown to over 130 organizations,” notes Ms. Major. “We look forward to celebrating 20 years and to the continuation and growth of this partnership with our friends and neighbors.”
