T.E.N. Announces Winners at the ISE® North America Awards
CHICAGO & ATLANTA (PRWEB) November 11, 2015 -- T.E.N., a technology and information security executive networking and relationship-marketing firm, honored finalists and winners Tuesday evening at the 2015 ISE® North America Leadership Summit and Awards Gala at the Westin Michigan Avenue in Chicago, IL.
The ISE® North America awards recognize both information security executives and project teams for outstanding achievements in risk management, data asset protection, compliance, privacy and network security. Award program participants are located across the U.S. and Canada, and nominations were considered within four categories based on industry classification, including Academic/Public Sector, Commercial, Financial Services and Health Care.

Academic/Public Sector Category
Medha Bhalodkar, chief information security officer for Columbia University, and Michael Dent, chief information security officer for Fairfax County, were selected as the Information Security Executive® of the Year Award co-winners in the Academic/Public Sector Category. Bhalodkar is a recognized risk management and information security professional with more than 25 years of experience and serves on a number of governing bodies, steering committees of professional organizations and is a frequent panel speaker at major NY conferences. Dent is a veteran public servant and has been the catalyst for establishing an enterprise-wide IT risk management vision and strategy for Fairfax County, including development of a county-wide comprehensive IT security risk and privacy program.
The “IT Risk Management Security & Privacy Program” project, submitted by Columbia University, was selected as the ISE® North America Project of the Year in the Academic/Public Sector Category. The project outlines a multi-layered approach to Security at the University, including strategy, policies and standards, governance and operating model, management processes, management reporting, communication, training, and awareness.
Commercial Category
Bret Arsenault, chief information security officer for Microsoft, was selected as the Information Security Executive® of the Year Award winner in the Commercial Category. Bret has designed, implemented and led the information security organization for a multinational, Fortune 50 technology company for over a decade. He is a respected security leader across the industry and is recognized for his ability to navigate risk through innovative leadership and vision. Finalists included Chris Bullock, director of information assurance for Aaron’s, and Pritesh Parekh, chief security officer for Zuora.
The ISE® North America Project of the Year in the Commercial Category was AT&T’s “Project Astra;” an innovative, cloud-based platform to protect all internal applications within the AT&T cloud environment. Finalists included the Aaron’s project, “Secure Software Development Lifecycle,” Caesars Entertainment’s project “Tokenization of all Caesars PCI environment,” and Jabil’s project, “Security-as-a-Service Initiative.”
Financial Services Category
Lisa Humbert, chief information risk officer for BNY Mellon, was selected as the Information Security Executive® of the Year Award winner in the Financial Services Category. Lisa leads a global team responsible for delivering a best-in-class enterprise-wide information risk management (IRM) program and services, which includes information security, cyber security and technology controls.
The USAA project “Biometric Logon for Mobile App” was selected as the ISE® North America Project of the Year in the Financial Services Category. USAA continues to innovate in security, first with two-factor “Quick Logon” and now by providing a game changing experience of using facial or voice biometrics as a convenient and secure means of logging onto the USAA Mobile Application. Finalists included the ADP project, “Integrated Application Security Testing” and Janus’s project, “ElasticSearch Security Visualization Engine.”
Health Care Category
Mike Towers, executive information security officer for Allergan, was selected as the Information Security Executive® of the Year Award winner in the Health Care Category. Mike is accountable globally for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Allergan’s vast information assets across an R&D, supply chain and commercial enterprise spanning 250+ locations in ~100 countries. Mike’s responsibilities also include IT compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, risk management and third-party oversight.
DaVita’s “Application Security Program Management” was selected as the ISE® North America Project of the Year in the Health Care Category. The project was focused on transforming how application security was managed for DaVita HealthCare Partners’ complex ecosystem. HMS’s project “Business Resilience Program” and Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Care Network of Michigan’s project “Supplier Risk Management” were finalists in this category.
People’s Choice Award
Gary Hayslip, chief information security officer for the City of San Diego, was named the ISE® North America People’s Choice Award Winner. This award represents the nominee who best exemplifies information security leadership as voted on by peers in information security.
Luminary Leadership Award
Also honored during Tuesday’s awards program was the 2015 Luminary Leadership Award winner Bill Boni, chief information security officer for T-Mobile. Presented annually, the award celebrates the achievements of an outstanding leader and industry practitioner for his or her distinguished service, stewardship and contributions in advancing the information security industry.
