Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea Named 2016 Ohio Small Business of the Year
Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) December 04, 2015 -- Columbus coffee roaster Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea has been named Ohio Small Business of the Year in the first ever Ohio Made Awards sponsored by the Ohio Creative Collective. In October, the company also was named 2016 Macro Roaster of the Year by Roast magazine.
“Since I love Ohio, receiving the Ohio Made Ohio Small Business of the Year award is a huge accomplishment,” said Founder and President Greg Ubert. “It recognizes Crimson Cup’s growth in the Ohio business community over almost 25 years.
“The award is yet another reason for me to be thankful for the people I work with every day – from our central Ohio cuppers to the small farmers who grow our coffee and the community of thriving independent coffee shops and specialty grocers across 29 states and internationally who distribute Crimson Cup coffee to consumers.”
The Ohio Made Awards celebrate Ohio makers, business owners, food artisans, inventors and entrepreneurs. As Ohio Small Business of the Year, Crimson Cup was honored for its unique marketing strategy and success, community involvement and exceptional, informed customer service. The company also received an Honorable Mention in the Outstanding Ohio Food Product category. It will accept the awards at the Ohio Made Awards ceremony on Friday, January 15, 2016 at La Scala Italian Bistro in Dublin.
At Crimson Cup, community begins at its Columbus, Ohio headquarters and roasting facility and stretches across the United States to coffee-growing countries in Central and South America, Africa and Asia. The company imports and roasts nearly half a million pounds of sustainably sourced specialty coffee annually. Driven by growth, it opened a new, 20,000-square-foot roasting and distribution facility at 1925 Alum Creek Drive in Columbus earlier this year.
The company teaches entrepreneurs to run thriving independent coffee houses through its 7 Steps to Success coffee franchise alternative program. Based on Ubert’s Book, Seven Steps to Success: A Common Sense Guide to Succeed in Specialty Coffee, the program has launched hundreds of independent coffee houses in 29 states. A dozen or more new shops open each year.
Through its Friend2Farmer direct trade program, Crimson Cup helps small-plot coffee farmers improve coffee quality and the quality of life in their local communities. By traveling to meet with coffee farmers, the company develops a better understanding of growing conditions and community needs. Crimson Cup pays an above-market premium to farmers, who can then invest in agricultural and community improvements. Coffee experts also collaborate with farmers on ways to improve the quality of the coffee.
