Port Freight Movement Statistics Collected Using Ottoview.
Winnipeg, Manitoba (PRWEB) February 01, 2016 -- Persen Technologies Inc. (PERSENTECH), a leading innovator of data logging systems and solutions, has passed a rigorous selection process and won a tender to supply Ottoview Vehicle Data Loggers to CargoM, la GRAPPE MÉTROPOLITAINE DE LOGISTIQUE ET TRANSPORT DE MONTRÉAL, to support their objectives in increasing freight movement efficiency. The data collected by the Ottoview data loggers will provide CargoM with a detailed and rich data set to establish baseline metrics and to develop intervention techniques to increase freight movement efficiency through an integrated multimodal solution.
Port performance or freight movement statistics are dependent upon traditional paper and pen surveys provided to drivers, freight forwarders, and port operators. The collected information poses challenges in data entry, data integrity and data processing to extract the required information to determine truck dwell times, port congestion, and the economic and environmental impact to the surrounding area. The Ottoview data loggers and the Ottodata big data management system provide an autonomous data collection system that includes survey information. Surveys are presented at the start and stop of the trips, and the loggers collect GPS and vehicle diagnostic information continuously while the trucks are operational. The resulting data set is tangible and includes all the relevant statistics that can be used to increase operational efficiencies for all stakeholders.
PERSENTECH’s products and services are used in various transportation studies and vehicle-use urveys including Transport Canada’s Canadian Vehicle Use Study deployed nation-wide. The innovations include ease-of-installation, portability to move the device from vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-tracking and reporting solutions, smart phone applications, and street level map data for Location Based Services (LBS). The VDL50 multi-protocol logger in particular, can be used with both light and heavy-duty vehicles and provides visual and audible trip information including fuel-use and CO2 emissions.
