Staten Island's Only Bikram Hot Yoga Studio to Change Name and Be One of Two Studios in New York to Offer Inferno Hot Pilates Classes
Staten Island, N.Y. (PRWEB) February 04, 2016 -- (February 1, 2016) Bikram Yoga Staten Island, a Staten Island, New York based hot yoga and pilates studio, recently rebranded changing their name to Some Like It Hot Yoga & Wellness. The studio announced this week that they are starting the new year with a new name, 60 minute class options and will be one of two studios in the tri-state area that can offer Inferno Hot Pilates classes! Owner, Nicole Stuckey say's, "We have worked really hard to create a studio unlike many others. A large, clean, efficient studio to practice in, a practice and teaching staff that is consistent, and an amazing community of yogi’s. Changing our name goes hand in hand with this as we strive to create a safe, supportive, healing environment for everyone that practices here."
Since March 2014, Bikram Yoga Staten Island has been the only authentic Bikram Yoga method hot yoga studio on Staten Island. While the practice has been around since the 70’s, this was the first to offer the practice to fellow islanders. Ms. Stuckey states, "Prior to opening our studio doors, news of several lawsuits filed against Bikram Choudhury and Bikram Yoga, Inc, began to surface. I chose to open using the name Bikram Yoga, with plans to change it at some point. At the time, Bikram Choudhury had a copyright on the 26 posture series and I needed to both describe the type of yoga we practice and differentiate this studio from other “hot yoga” studios that offer different forms of yoga." This past October, it was ruled that Bikram Choudhury’s sequence of 26 yoga poses and two breathing exercises is not entitled to copyright protection, allowing Ms. Stuckey to disassociate from Bikram Choudhury and Bikram Yoga, Inc, moving forward with the name change and the freedom to both add 60 minute class options and to start offering Inferno Hot Pilates classes. Ms. Stuckey say's "I felt the time is right for the change. I couldn’t bare the thought of one person feeling uncomfortable about stepping inside this studio because of the allegations. I do not want the actions of one man to reflect upon me, this studio or the amazing community of yogi's that has developed here. I believe in the power of the 26 & 2 class… the combination of the heat, humidity, dialogue, and postures sequence is magical! Not only in the science of one posture preparing your mind and body for the next, but also in the moving meditation that goes hand and hand with the intensity. Out of chaos comes order within these four walls. I whole-heartedly believe, as a both a teacher and a student, if you try your best, and have a consistent practice, the benefits received are unlimited. I find great joy in seeing the transformations in a person's body, abilities, and mind-set. I am beyond thrilled to have had the opportunity to bring this amazing practice and it’s healing benefits to Staten Island. I have a deep appreciation for this yoga practice and it will never change or be watered down."
Moving forward you will see the website, outside signage and marketing materials reflect these changes over time, but you can always expect the same great environment, dynamic classes, reasonable prices, qualified teachers and some amazing class additions coupled with some more surprises to be reveled over the next few months.
