Education Non-Profit to Host Information Sessions for Prospective Teachers in Arizona
Phoenix, Arizona (PRWEB) February 18, 2016 -- The Arizona Center for Teacher Preparation will be hosting four information events across Arizona in the next month. These sessions allow prospective students of the AZCTP to meet with a representative of the program, learn the various ways of certifying to teach in Arizona, and ask any questions about the program they may have. Sessions are held in local libraries, are open to the public, and are free.
As the country, and Arizona in particular, is facing an epic teacher shortage, the Arizona Center for Teacher Preparation aims to put local residents in the classroom with their online teacher certification program.
The Arizona Center for Teacher Preparation, known as the American Board nationwide, is a non-profit organization that helps prospective teachers earn their certification online. Anyone with a Bachelor’s degree that meets Arizona Department of Education requirements (can pass a background check, etc.) is eligible for the program. Students of the program have up to one year to study online for and pass the Professional Teaching Knowledge exam. The exam covers pedagogy and classroom management, and the average student completes the exam in 4-6 months. Then, the student will teach for one year while completing a mentorship program with an experienced educator in their school. After completing both components of the program and passing additional requirements per the Arizona Department of Education, the student will be eligible for an initial teacher license.
The program is used as an alternative to a second Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree in education. The average student of the Arizona Center for Teacher Preparation is a career changer that wants to become a teacher but does not have the time or resources to spend 2-4 years in the classroom.
