Solution Enables One-on-One Coaching From World-Class Surgeons

C-SATS (, a venture-backed health care technology company on a mission to empower the nation’s healthcare institutions so they can appraise and facilitate surgical performance improvement accurately and objectively, today announced that Adventist Health System has implemented a new and innovative approach to tele-coaching based upon C-SATS.

C-SATS enables surgeons to connect for private one-on-one coaching sessions with some of the most experienced surgeons in the world. The surgeon and coach review the objective video-based appraisal from C-SATS in advance so they can focus on specific findings and recommendations for improvement. The result is a more effective, efficient and less time-consuming learning session for both mentor and mentee.

“C-SATS tele-mentoring is not only valuable today for the practice of medicine and surgery, but it also will have long-lasting impact on how we train future physicians. The opportunity to use data from inter-operative video appraisals during the online coaching session is unique and much better than traditional coaching,” said Dr. Robert Cerfolio, Professor of Surgery and chief of the Section of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

This latest C-SATS-Adventist Health System collaboration follows the recent deployment of C-SATS’ cutting-edge solution for continuous quality improvement in the area of robotic surgery at seven Adventist Health System hospitals.

With 46 hospital campuses, nearly 8,300 licensed beds in 10 states and more than 4.7 million patients annually, Adventist Health System believes the benefits of using C-SATS to help assess and improve robotic surgical performance via tele-mentoring, simulation curriculum, and recommended peer group videos will yield measurable and sustainable improvements in both surgical performance and patient safety.

“The C-SATS tele-mentoring platform is different from other forms of online coaching because a mentee's case is appraised by reviewers around the world in advance of the procedure so that when the tele-mentoring session happens both parties know what to focus on,” said Dr. Thomas Lendvay, Chief Medical Officer, C-SATS. “We are on a mission to provide surgeons with a tool to continue to improve surgical technique, without having to take time out of clinical responsibilities or the operating room.
