Emmanuel College to Build New Residence Hall in Boston
Boston, Massachusetts (PRWEB) June 14, 2016 -- Emmanuel College today announced plans to build a new residence hall on its main campus in Boston. Featuring a bold modern design and contemporary apartment-style living spaces, the building will enable Emmanuel to house more of its students on campus, enhancing the vibrancy of the College community. The project will begin this month and is scheduled to conclude by the fall of 2018.
The new 18-story, 690-bed student residence will be constructed on the site of the existing 220-bed Julie Hall. The additional space will allow for 84 percent of students to live on campus, up from the current 73 percent. Apartments will include two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchens, and living rooms, as well as some one bedroom apartments.
"This new residence hall is a pivotal step toward Emmanuel's second century that will enhance the student life experience," said Sister Janet Eisner, SND, President of Emmanuel College.
Over the past decade, the College has made significant investments in its campus including the state-of-the-art Maureen Murphy Wilkens Science Center and the Jean Yawkey Student Center. Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh has applauded Emmanuel's new residence hall project as an important step toward an initiative to provide more on campus housing for college students in Boston.
Through a long term partnership with neighboring MCPHS University, the new residence hall will accommodate students of Emmanuel and MCPHS University. Both institutions are members of the Colleges of the Fenway (COF), a collaborative of six neighboring Boston-based colleges in the Fenway area. COF schools have a long history of collaboration on academic and on student housing initiatives.
Emmanuel has engaged top-tier architecture and construction management firms to lead the project including Elkus Manfredi Architects and John Moriarty & Associates. These firms have extensive experience with higher education, cultural, and commercial construction projects for organizations such as Harvard University, Duke University, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and Emerson College.
