Society of Decorative Painters Announces 2016 Board of Directors
Wichita, KS (PRWEB) June 28, 2016 -- The Society of Decorative Painters’ (SDP) Nominations Committee is pleased to announce its members elected to the SDP Board of Directors for the 2016 term. Members elected to serve on the Board’s Executive Committee are President, Kathy Swigon, Certified Decorative Artist (CDA); Vice President/President Elect, Kaye Singer; Recording Secretary, Linda Sharp, Certified Decorative Artist (CDA); and Treasurer, Susan Herr.
“As President, my goal is to keep the positive momentum in our global painting community going,” said Swigon. “There's a lot of work to do, but also a lot of exciting experiences for our members to look forward to in the coming year, including our 45th anniversary of the Society of Decorative Painters International Conference & Expo, taking place next May in Daytona Beach, Florida.”
Swigon is a graduate of Indiana University and the University of Tennessee, but found her passion for art when she joined a neighbor for a tole painting class in 1979. She has taught folk art classes at both a local and home studio, and continues to work as a freelance artist in the decorative painting field with national home builders and award winning interior designers. She is a founding member of the Society’s Penn’s Woods Painters Chapter, and is currently a member of Penn’s Wood Painters, Florida Suncoast Decorative Artists and Heart of Pinellas Decorative Artists.
In addition to the Executive Committee, seven members were elected to aid the SDP Board of Directors as needed in the role of Board Member-At-Large. They are Past President, Wendy Watson, Accredited Decorative Painter (ADP); Marilyn Corners, Master Decorative Artist (MDA); Michele Heiser; Toni Hoffer; Pat Marler; Susan Phillips; and Jeanie Miller.
The candidates were elected by a ballot vote by the Society’s members in attendance at the organization’s Annual Meeting as well as members who mailed in an absentee ballet, as outlined in the Society’s bylaws. The Annual Meeting was held on June 8, 2016 during the 44th Annual Society of Decorative Painters International Conference & Expo at the Town and Country Resort in San Diego, California.
To be nominated, individuals must have been members of the Society in good standing for at least three years immediately preceding the time of election; the nominee for Vice President/President Elect must have had previous service as an elected member of the SDP Board of Directors.
The SDP Board of Directors meets monthly to address the needs of the Society’s membership from a strategic viewpoint, strengthen the ties between its members and Chapters, and spearhead programs to provide members with the greatest possible value. These members serve on a voluntary basis, through which they establish networking and business opportunities, advance their careers through industry leadership, and contribute their voices as advocates for the Society’s members.
Serving on the 2015 Nominations Committee were Chair, Donna Frost; Cookie Trent, Teacher of Decorative Art (TDA) and Accredited Decorative Painter (ADP); Linda Chaffee; Carolyn Findlay; and Sandra Reynolds.
