The 3 Percent Project is Empowering over 1 Million Canadian Youth to Solve Global Climate Change in Local Communities
Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) June 30, 2016 -- The 3 Percent Project, the revolutionary new project setting out to mobilize the youth of Canada to solve climate change, is currently live on Indiegogo and raising funds to bring the project to life.
The 3 Percent Project is the brainchild of Steve Lee, a 23-year-old climate change activist, a policy advocate to the United Nations, and a global speaker. Starting this fall, Lee will embark on a two-year journey to convince young people throughout his home country of Canada that climate change is real, and that they better start paying attention before it is too late. The 3 Percent Project is being backed by the advisory support of Nobel Prize winners, former ministers, deans of top universities, and educators.
The goal is to mobilize 1 million Canadian youth, through 5 national tours across 400 towns in 2 years. 1 million young Canadians - that’s 3% of Canada - will be educated and empowered to solve climate change in their local communities. The result will be a nationwide conviction that climate change is happening right now, that it is mainly caused by human activities, and that this is the final generation with the opportunity to solve climate change.
"We believe ourselves to be great environment protectors, but the reality is that our country has a disappointingly poor environmental track record. To most of us it is a shock to discover that Canada consistently ranks within the top ten highest greenhouse gas emitters per capita and worst environmental protectors,” says Lee, “And while 79% of Canadians believe the earth is warming, only 44% believe that the warming is a result of human activities. Our closest neighbors, the Americans are three times more likely to admit human activity as a cause for the changing climate than we are. We are in the difficult position of trying to find solutions to a problem which we cannot even agree we are responsible for having caused.”
As a prolific speaker and panelist to dozens of events, Steve has represented the Canadian youth on the issues of climate change, sustainable development, and youth empowerment. Steve is personally trained by Al Gore as a Climate Reality Leader and scientifically trained at the University of Toronto in Physiology and Human Biology.
Once successful, Lee will embark on a two year nationwide tour beginning in October 2016 and concluding in December 2018 with the goal of acquiring 1,000,000 signatures and twenty 3% Advocates over 400 cities.
“Youth are taught about the negative consequences of climate change but not given the tools to solve it, but provided no training or mentorship to effectively solve climate change,” adds Lee, “We can solve this, but we know that turning off lights isn't enough to solve climate change. Big problems require big solutions.”
