CCG now offers the world's lightest protector case, the Pelican Air, and the first off-the-shelf rackmount case by the company.
I’m already seeing these cases benefit our customers significantly, which is really exciting. I’m eager to see all the ways we’ll be able to improve customer satisfaction thanks to this technology.

In a move to bring the latest in transport case technology to customers, leading custom case manufacturer Custom Case Group (CCG) announced today it has added the Pelican-Hardigg V-Series and Pelican Air cases to its inventory These two lines represent the most recent technological developments by multinational manufacturer Pelican Products, the world’s principal design manufacturer of protective cases.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer these cases to our customers,” said CCG President Tim Jennings, “These two Pelican lines will allow us to bring entirely new, creative solutions to some of our customers’ greatest challenges.”
The Air Series
The Pelican Air Series, which is part of the manufacturer’s Protector family of transport cases, is the lightest polymer protector case in the world. Jennings said the cases, though up to 40-percent lighter than other polymer cases, undergo the same rigorous testing at the Pelican Lab in Massachusetts, and are just as strong as the heavier cases. “And they’re guaranteed for life, the same as all Pelican cases,” he said.
The Science Behind the Lightness
Jennings said Pelican designed the Air cases using the next generation of its proprietary Pelican HPX™ 2 resin, which rebounds without breaking. According to the case specifications, honeycomb structural elements and stiffened, hollow full box sections reduce structural waste—and weight—without compromising case durability. To create the cases, Pelican engineers aggregated various airlines’ rules for maximum size dimensions. They then developed a structural design optimized for maximum carrying capacity at the lowest possible weight.
“The strength-to-weight ratio is by far the best thing about the Air cases,” Jennings said. “The ratio opens up a range of new possibilities for transporting heavier equipment in weight-restricted contexts—especially by plane—which is a significant benefit to many of our customers.”
According to Pelican’s published specifications, each of the cases is manufactured using the HPX 2 polymer, is crushproof and dustproof and has an automatic purge valve to compensate for air pressure.
The V-Series
Jennings said that, in the past, the extended customization process meant companies needing professional-grade rack mount cases would be forced to wait. “The V-Series changes all that,” said Jennings. “Thanks to some incredible R&D, these cases are ready to go right off the shelf—a benefit that should really increase efficiency for our customers.”
According to Pelican’s published specifications, the two cases are compliant with the United Nations’ Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHs) directive as well as its Registration, Evaluation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation.
Jennings said the sealed gasket and pressure release valve on both models render it airtight and watertight and remove the risk of over-pressurization.
V-Series R&D
To develop the V-Series, Jennings said Pelican analyzed a large set of rack mount design data collected over several decades. “Because they’d designed so many thousands of custom rack mount cases in incredibly diverse configurations, they were able to run the numbers and come up with the statistical ideal. This development is extremely exciting because it will really enhance logistics for companies over time.”
Jennings said, “I’m already seeing these cases benefit our customers significantly, which is really exciting. I’m eager to see all the ways we’ll be able to improve customer satisfaction thanks to this technology.”
