John F. Kennedy University Launches New Bilingual Leadership Certificate Program in Collaboration with California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce

Kennedy University and the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce (CHCC) announce the launch of a fully-online bilingual Leadership Certificate Program, starting this month, to support emerging leaders in the business sector. With an estimated 800,000 Hispanic business owners in the state, the collaboration builds on JFK University’s expertise educating a diverse population of adult learners, including entrepreneurs, with the Chamber’s mission to support and encourage the advancement and development of Hispanic and minority-owned businesses.
“We are extremely pleased to be partnering with JFK University to expand statewide access to our members through the Leadership Certificate Program,” said Frank Montes, Chair of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Board of Directors. “The concepts featured in this program will be of great value to our members in supporting the growth and success of Hispanic-owned and managed businesses, which in turn contributes greatly to our state’s economy.”
Through the special agreement, the Leadership Certificate Program will launch Sept. 30, for CHCC members and CHCC affiliates. The initiative, which also involves the collaboration of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Foundation, will be unveiled during the 37th Annual CHCC Convention in Riverside CA, September 21st to 23rd. Innovation Starts Here is the theme of the three day convention with a focus on new innovations sparking the creativity of entrepreneurs throughout California, technologies transforming industries, and recognize Hispanic millennials and Latinas who are forging their own paths in business.

The CHCC promotes, supports and encourages the advancement and development of Hispanic and minority-owned businesses through a variety of programs. While the CHCC has offered a leadership program to members in the past, this is the first time it has partnered with an academic institution to offer a comprehensive certificate program. The program is completely online, in English and Spanish, with relevant coursework aligned with CHCC goals that incorporates the academic criteria of JFK University, which has its own Institute of Entrepreneurial Leadership.

The collaboration between the CHCC and JFK University is a natural fit. JFK University, a designated Hispanic Serving Institution, has been a leader in offering courses for working adults in California, and has extensive experience providing courses online and at its three campus locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. The University recently opened an Undergraduate Student Success Center, the result of a U.S. Department of Education grant to support the ongoing academic success and of Hispanic and underserved students. Since launching in 2011, the University’s Institute of Entrepreneurial Leadership has helped over 200 Entrepreneurs to collectively create or grow businesses that have generated nearly $1.7 billion in revenues and are employing over 4,000 people in 2015.
For participants wishing to continue studies after the certificate program, the University’s Institute of Entrepreneurial Leadership offers additional opportunities. “JFK University’s Division of Continuing Education has customized the Leadership Certificate Program to promote access to quality education that is available to the Chambers’ members at their convenience through interactive-self-paced online courses,” said Jack Paduntin, JFK University’s VP of Academic Initiatives. “We also offer a range of programs through our Institute that can enhance even further their ongoing education.”
In partnership with the CHCC, enrollment for the 11-course self-paced online program begins Sept. 21, with courses starting Sept. 30. The program, which is offered in both English and Spanish, provides a comprehensive focus on strategic planning, entrepreneurship, marketing and communications and other key business leadership skills.
