Hurricane Matthew Update: The Time to Help Children in Haiti is Now
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) October 07, 2016 -- Reports from Give Hope Global's operations in Haiti have confirmed our dire fears: Hurricane Matthew has caused catastrophic damage, leading to a massive increase of children in need.
We are asking for your support today. The need is urgent.
Give Hope Global Co-founders Roger Braswell and Angela Quinn announced an emergency trip to Les Cayes, Haiti, which will take place on Oct. 15 with 20 volunteers for on-ground support and rescue efforts needed immediately to help 700 orphaned children.
As a 100% volunteer-based nonprofit with no full-time employees or payroll, Give Hope’s request for Paypal donations via http://givehopeglobal.org ensures money given goes directly where it is most needed now.
“The Cambry Orphanage in Haiti is now a critical location where an overflow of children from at least three other orphanages continues gathering due to the massive destruction caused by Hurricane Matthew,” Braswell said.
An initial report of a limited, four-day food supply for Cambry prompted Give Hope’s coordination with other key organizations including the Global Orphan Project and Samaritan’s Purse.
With concerns about food, medicine, fuel for generators, hygiene, sewage and water quality in the weeks to come, Give Hope’s initial ground crew will focus on much-needed repairs, emotional support for the children and a wide range of clean-up efforts.
“Immediate needs include funds to purchase and ship chainsaws, generators and tents,” Braswell said. “We need to rebuild orphanages, medical clinics, schools and church buildings as soon as possible, which will cost millions of dollars in the short term.”
Beyond October, Give Hope will assist in the restoration of other localized orphanages, and front-line work that can only be supported by financial donations, currently estimated in the $2M-$3M range.
“Thanks to the generosity of so many over the last several years, we’ve achieved an incredible amount of support to ensure these children are cared for,” said Give Hope Co-founder Angela Quinn. “Now, more than ever, we are asking people to help spread the word to friends on Facebook and in the workplace… that they can directly impact the healing of a nation, starting with orphaned children in desperate need today.”
