Maritz Motivation Solutions: Five Factors of Change and How HR Leaders Can Address Them
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) October 17, 2016 -- Maritz Motivation Solutions has released The HR Leader’s Guide to the Future of Work, a new ebook for HR leaders that outlines five major trends shaping the future of the workplace, and provides recommendations on how to meet them.
The guide also offers insight on how HR leaders can create programs that effectively connect
culture – the way things work – with employee engagement – how people feel about the way things work. And it includes a checklist for HR executives to accurately inventory their engagement programs.
“The guide’s primary purpose is to prepare HR leaders for the changing world of work by providing tools and tips needed to ensure employees are connected to your organization’s purpose, aligned to your mission and values, and engaged in meaningful work that moves your business forward,” said Kimberly Abel-Lanier, VP and General Manager for CultureNext® workforce solutions at Maritz Motivation Solutions.
According to the guide, the five factors of change, with tips to address them, are:
The rise of multinational companies. As organizations and teams begin to expand globally, leaders must develop new ways to communicate and engage their people across borders and cultures. As an HR leader, provide guidance for managers leading global teams. Arm them with tools to learn and understand different cultures and coach them on how to incorporate different preferences and communication styles.
Five generations in the workforce. When it comes to managing and motivating your people, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the perspectives, needs and influences of each generation. Stay away from the standard one-size-fits-all model of talent management and embrace a more flexible alternative that can adapt to your changing workforce.
The need for flexibility. Flexibility means providing employees with the freedom to set their own schedules, as well as giving employees the option to customize their benefits. According to the Intelligence Group, 74% of millennials say flexible work schedules are a priority. Have you reviewed your benefit policies on work hours and business norms? Consider upgrading your policies to take flexibility into account. If your organization isn’t ready to make the leap to flexible hours, perhaps start by allowing employees to work from home one day per week, offer a compressed workweek, or moving to a rolling start/end time.
The rise of virtual employees. According to GlobalWorkplaceAnalytics, the number of virtual employees has increased 102% from 2004 to 2014, with nearly 3% of the modern workforce working from home at least half the time. As your virtual workforce grows – either in size or in distance – keep the lines of communication open and consistent. Ensure your virtual employees have access to and understand how to use technology to stay connected. Coach managers and leaders to make virtual workers feel they are an integral part of the team by participating in social communities, sharing great work through stories and using personalized communication.
The explosion of technology. With the accelerating rate of technological changes in the workplace, many employees will find themselves struggling to keep up. The key is to anticipate, embrace and adapt to new technologies. At the same time, the “digital natives” of Generation Z, just starting to enter the workforce, expect technology at work to enhance collaboration between peers. What communication and collaboration tools do you have in place? Will they fit the needs and expectations of these younger generations?
