Surya Brasil Recognized for Work on Behalf of Children’s Rights in Brazil
New Hyde Park, NY (PRWEB) October 25, 2016 -- Surya Brasil, a top-seller in organic, vegan and natural beauty and wellness products, is proud to announce that it has once again received the Abrinq Foundation’s Child-Friendly Company Award. For the third consecutive year, the company and its social responsibility division, Surya Solidarity, have been recognized for their work in fighting slave and child labor, child sexual exploitation and maintaining child and adolescent rights.
In 1990, the Brazilian Association of Toy Manufacturers (Abrinq) created a Directorate of Child Rights within its organization, which is now known as the Abrinq Foundation for the Rights of Children and Adolescents. The group has developed strategies consisting of: stimulating social responsibility, pressure for implementing public actions, strengthening of non-government and governmental organizations, providing services for the protection of rights and more. In 1995, Abrinq instated a program encouraging private investment in social actions for children and adolescents. Since its establishment, the program has gone on to recognize companies of all sizes, activities and regions that fall in line with the group’s mission of protecting the country’s youth and its fight against child labor.
“We are honored that the Abrinq Foundation continues to recognize our efforts in protecting the rights and bettering the livelihood of Brazil’s youth,” says Wanda Malhotra, co-founder and CEO of Surya Brasil. “Our Surya Solidarity division is such a big part of who we are as a company, so it is rewarding for us to see that our social efforts and initiatives are not going unnoticed and that we are making an impact in Brazil.” The Surya Solidary Institute, a sub-division of Surya Brasil, under the direction of Vice President Marcio Alexandre Gomes Moreira, is continuing to work to provide young people the rights found in Brazil’s Statute of Children and Adolescents.
Looking to redefine what it means to be a successful business, Surya Solidarity focuses on animal protection, environmental preservation, educational transformation and human rights. Employees of Surya Brasil and volunteers pledge to practice the passion, mission and vision of the brand through various charitable actions. Many of the Surya Solidarity initiatives that have proven to be successful in the brand’s native Brazil have continued here in the U.S. Most recently, Surya Brasil has announced its part in giving to Whole Foods Markets’ Whole Planet Foundation, donating 5% from all of its sales at all store locations to support microlending programs and alleviate poverty in developing areas worldwide.
