T1 Tequila Takes First place in USA Today Readers' Choice, Best Craft Tequila of 2016
(PRWEB) November 03, 2016 -- Of the more than 1,000 Tequila brands produced, it is a singular honor for T1 Tequila Uno to have been selected as the USA Today Readers’ Choice Best Craft Tequila.
Nominees were chosen by a panel of relevant experts which include a combination of editors from USA TODAY; editors from 10Best.com; international tequila experts and contributors; and sources for both these media and other Gannett properties. All voting was digital over a 4-week period and the 10Best Readers’ Choice Award contest is accessible on the 10Best.com website. T1 Tequila Uno swept the competition and took first place.
The brand is the creation of legendary Master Distiller German Gonzalez, who with his father helped to create the concept of aged, hand-crafted, super-premium tequila in the early 1980‘s. This award is the culmination of his lifelong dedication to elevating the tequila category to be on par with aged single malt scotch, fine bourbons, and luxury cognacs. An additional side note: as confirmation of Sr. Gonzalez’s mastery as a tequilero, his very rare, private reserve, extra anejo tequila, Tears of Llorona, was also selected as a 10 Best nominee this year.
“I am very grateful and humbled that my tequilas have been recognized by USA Today Readers’ Choice and also want to thank the many aficionados and fans that have supported my efforts to bring these two very different tequilas to market. My father and I believed tequila can be on par with the best spirits in the world, and it makes me very proud to continue doing that work” says German.
The story of T1 Tequila Uno begins where the history of tequila begins. Using ancestral and traditional methods, everything about T1 is hand-selected, from the extra-aged succulent agaves grown in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico used to produce this delectable spirit, to the elegant tear-shaped bottle and crystalline closure that doubles as a ‘pour’. The brand is the personification of Gonzalez’s rich family legacy and influence on Mexican culture. German’s great-great grandfather General Manuel Gonzalez, was President of Mexico and then Governor of the State of Guanajuato and his father, Guillermo Gonzalez Diaz Lombardo founded La Gonzalena Distillery, producing the first ultra-premium tequila more than 30 years ago. This is where, under his father’s tutelage, German perfected his skills in hand-crafted tequilas.
T1 Tequila Uno is a family of five meticulously hand-crafted, luxury tequilas by artisan and Master Distiller Germán González:
- Ultra Fino, a crystal clear blanco tequila with very unique flavors and aromas,
- Selecto, a crystal clear blanco with a more pronounced, traditional deep agave flavor,
- Exceptional, a reposado tequila rested six to eight months in the oldest used scotch whisky barrels,
- Estelar, an anejo tequila aged for 24 months in used scotch whisky barrels to a tawny hue, “woody orange peel” tones, and a smooth finish,
- Sensacional, an extra anejo aged 36 months in used scotch whisky barrels for a remarkably complex and rich agave-plus-oak-characteristics body and color.
Tears of Llorona (http://www.tearsofllorona.mx) is German’s ultra rare, hand-crafted, multi-barreled, extra anejo tequila, conceived as his own private stock and never meant to be sold until his fans and friends talked him into offering a small supply for sale in 2014. It has been praised by The Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair, Forbes, Huffington Post and many others and was called “the Pappy Van Winkle of tequila” by Food & Wine Magazine.
