We are excited to be expanding Montana Code Girls to Butte and bringing high tech after-school programs for girls to the community.

Big Sky Code Academy, a Code.org Preferred Learning Partner and the leader in immersive coding boot camps across the state of Montana, and the Butte-Silver Bow Public Library today announced a partnership to bring the Montana Code Girls program to Butte’s young girls. Montana Code Girls is a year-long free after-school technology program for girls ages 9-19 that teaches leadership, entrepreneurial and computer programming skills using the Code.org and Technovation Challenge curricula.

“We are excited to partner with the Big Sky Code Academy and their Montana Code Girls program to bring this fun, free after-school program to Butte,” said Stef Johnson, Director of the Butte-Silver Bow Public Library. “We look forward to offering more coding programs to Butte’s boys and girls in the near future, as well as adult boot camps for grownups in our community interested in learning new skills."

“We are thrilled to be expanding to Butte and excited about our partnership with the Butte-Silver Bow Library to bring all of our Big Sky Code Academy initiatives including Montana Code Girls to this community,” said Devin B. Holmes, co-founder of Big Sky Code Academy. “We are on a mission to bring software development skills training to communities across Montana so together we can build a thriving technology sector and create high-tech job opportunities statewide. We look forward to being an integral part of the Butte community.”

“The BLDC is thrilled that Montana Code Girls and the Butte Public Library are partnering to connect our girls with opportunities that will expose them to coding, along with the many careers in the technology field, through their creative and fun hands-on learning program,” said Pam Haxby-Cote, Executive Director of the Butte Local Development Corporation. “This innovative program will give our girls the opportunity to take that first step towards becoming coders, and it will build a future pipeline line of talent with diversity in mind for the Butte economy.”

With the number of girls involved in STEM activities dropping off around the age of ten and practical approaches to addressing the pay gap between men and women starting in middle school, programs like Montana Code Girls are designed to engage young girls in impactful programming in a safe and engaging environment.

Big Sky Code Academy’s Montana Code Girls program kicks off on November 15th, 2016 at the Butte-Silver Bow Public Library at 4pm. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Friday’s from 4pm to 5pm for the entire academic year.
