Helix Showcases High-Touch, Faculty Focused Online Course Design Model at OLC Innovate
Salt Lake City, UT and Orlando, FL (PRWEB) November 16, 2016 -- As higher education institutions look to embrace innovations in online learning, questions continue to surface about how they can best support and empower faculty to become comfortable and confident in the online course design process. At this week's OLC Accelerate Conference, academic and instructional thought leaders from Helix Education and Thomas More College (TMC) will lead a session about the key role of faculty in course development, helping institutions draw out faculty expertise and passion so that it can be effectively integrated into high quality, personalized and scalable online courses.
By positioning faculty at the center of the course design experience, institutions can create an environment conducive to broader innovation and change. TMC provides a perfect case study of this model in action. Using Helix Education's collaborative course design process, TMC is reinvigorating strategic online course development through a faculty-driven instructional design process, and ensuring course quality along the way.
"The momentum of online learning has opened up opportunities for students and faculty alike, but at the same time online course and program development has left some institutions at a crossroads to find balance and synergy between the instructional design process and subject matter expertise," noted Emily Wood, Director of Instructional Design at Helix Education. "Highlighting examples of success at TMC, we'll explore the role faculty play in creating engaging online courses, as well as the use of flexible course design templates, the impact of faculty personalization, and approaches to building a collaborative environment."
Wood joins Scott Walker, Director of Academic Technology at Helix, and Nathan Hartman, Director of Online Engagement and Instructional Technology at TMC, to lead this interactive session. Through small group discussions and Q&A, session attendees will consider responses to changing educational paradigms, strategic planning for online programs, and approaches to personalizing online courses. Driving Development Through Partnership: A High-Touch Faculty-Focused Course Design Model takes place on Friday, November 18th at 9:45 a.m.
OLC Accelerate runs November 16th -18th in Orlando. It draws an international crowd of academic leaders, educators, administrators and online learning professionals all passionate about maintaining quality online learning, advancing best practice guidance, and accelerating innovation.
