Low-dosed cannabis mints signal a new era of responsible, effective cannabis usage.

"New cannabis consumers will need access to products containing small amounts of THC. Petra caters to those looking for a very moderate and controlled experience."

Kiva Confections just debuted its first non-chocolate, sugar-free product for California patients. Petra mints are a microdosed blend of CA grown cannabis, green tea matcha, and the zesty, refreshing flavors of Moroccan Mint and Eucalyptus. One mint contains only 2.5 MG of THC, a sub-psychoactive dose for most patients that still boasts a range of other benefits.

Microdose products like Petra allow individuals to find their minimum effective dose so they can experience the most health benefits of the plant with the fewest side effects. Overconsumption can lead to paranoia, anxiety or excessive psychoactivity and is of paramount concern to cannabis manufacturing companies. Consumers' lack of knowledge around self-dosing and the extensive range of product dosages on the market are the most common reasons patients consume too much cannabis in one sitting. Microdosed products allows patients to feel confident and in control of their experience, with little to no risk of uncomfortable side effects. A small dose also makes it possible for individuals to use cannabis as part of a daily routine, as interference with productivity, focus or energy levels is mitigated.

Small doses of medical marijuana have also been found to be beneficial to the endocannabinoid system, which promotes homeostasis throughout the body. A measured dose can actually augment a person's natural endogenous cannabinoids with the plant's phytocannabinoids. This benefit is in addition to the analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties that medical cannabis is most well-known for.

The Petra family of products, which will grow to include Lemongrass and Pineapple in the coming months, are the perfect introductory edible for patients unfamiliar with ingesting cannabis, those with low tolerance, or those simply looking for a subtler experience. Kiva looks forward to an expanding demographic of patients, including seniors and busy parents, using Petra to safely integrate cannabis into their active lifestyles.

"New cannabis consumers will need access to products containing small amounts of THC. Petra caters to those looking for a very moderate and controlled experience," says Kiva's COO and Co-Founder Kristi Knoblich.

Continuing their commitment to patient education, Kiva will be accompanying Petra's release with the circulation of thousands of small pamphlets entitled, "A Tiny Guide to Microdosing." This miniature booklet goes over the myriad health benefits, as well as the philosophy behind cannabis microdosing.

Microdosing has gained traction in recent years for its well-documented usage in Silicon Valley. There, engineers, coders, tech entrepeneurs and other lifehackers take minute, sub-psychoactive quantities of psychedelic drugs in order to enhance their performance, improve concentration, and reduce stress. The same principals can be applied to cannabis consumption. Kiva has already established itself as a pioneer in cannabis microdosing with their best-selling line of Terra Bites, which come in 5MG doses of THC in either Espresso Bean or Blueberry flavors. With the launch of Petra, the six-year-old company continues their legacy of presenting products of outstanding innovation, safety, and convenience to their discerning community of patients.

Kiva’s artisan confections have garnered multiple awards and recognition in the marketplace including Best Edible at both the San Francisco and LA High Times Cannabis Cups in 2013.

ABOUT KIVA

Kiva Confections is a California-based company creating artisanal, cannabis-infused confectionery products.

Kiva was born out of a need for an edible product that was consistent, safe and enjoyable to consume. In early 2010 the cannabis edibles market was desperately underserved; the products available were untested, unlabeled, and inconsistent in potency.

To solve this problem, founders Scott Palmer and Kristi Knoblich began exploring novel approaches to medicating through food. After visiting a local chocolatier, the lightbulb went off. Working with cannabis cultivators, certified analytics laboratories, and a lot of trial and error, Kiva was born. Immediately patients took notice and fell in love with the chocolate bars for their consistent potency, incredible taste and informative packaging.

To accompany the new product, the founders developed a mission statement that would go beyond simply delivering a better edible. It included a commitment to efficacy, food safety, and business integrity which continues today. The company has grown to encompass a wide variety of edibles with a loyal customer base throughout hundreds of dispensaries in CA, AZ, NV and growing.

With a passionate family of employees dedicated to quality, food safety and compassionate care, Kiva continues to redefine the edible cannabis category and lead the way in developing great-tasting, innovative ways for people to consume cannabis.
