NCPDP Foundation Awards $40,000 in Scholarship Funds to Colleges of Pharmacy at Four Universities
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (PRWEB) April 20, 2017 -- NCPDP Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization that is affiliated with NCPDP, announced it has awarded $40,000 in scholarship funds to four university college of pharmacy programs across the country. The college of pharmacy at Butler University, South Dakota State University, Temple University and the University of Iowa each received $10,000 in student scholarship funds. The University of Florida and University of Maryland each received $1,000 to set up honorarium funds for future graduates of their programs.
“We invited NCPDP Foundation donors to nominate a college of pharmacy to receive the scholarship funds,” said Charlie Oltman, MBA, CHC, President of NCPDP Foundation. “We received a record number of stellar nominations from our donors and wish we could have chosen them all. Many of the nominations came from donors who are former graduates of these schools – and all of them understand pharmacists’ vital role in patient care and the patient safeguards afforded by the proper use health information technology.”
To date, NCPDP Foundation has awarded $89,000 in pharmacy student scholarship funds.
In addition to supporting scholarships that help the next generation of pharmacists become proficient in the use of health information technology (IT) to improve patient care, donations to the NCPDP Foundation also support research and pilot projects to drive the proper use of standards in health IT to improve healthcare outcomes and reduce costs.
