Brita® and Steel Sports Join to Give Urban Teams a Chance to Win an All-Expense-Paid Trip to Compete in the National Youth Baseball Championships
HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. (PRWEB) April 19, 2017 -- Water filtration company Brita® is giving urban youth baseball teams a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to compete in the National Youth Baseball Championships this summer.
Through the initiative, Brita, the title sponsor of Steel Sports’ National Youth Baseball Championships, will fund urban youth baseball teams to participate at 18 qualifiers around the country, including Chicago, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston and New York. The LA Rockstars 14U, Schutt Sacramento Speed Elite 14U and Chicago White Sox ACE 13U teams have already taken part in the initiative at events this spring in California and Illinois.
Following the Memorial Day qualifier in Dubuque, Iowa, one team will be selected to receive an all-expense-paid trip to New York to compete in the National Youth Baseball Championships. This will include flights, hotel accommodations, transportation and meals for the entire team and coaching staff.
“Brita launched this initiative to give young athletes in our urban communities the opportunity to play in the National Youth Baseball Championships and bring kids from all different backgrounds together through our national pastime,” Brita Vice President and General Manager Ed Huber said. “Simply put, our children need more opportunities to play and be healthy. Steel Sports and the National Youth Baseball Championships are perfect partners to work with to increase sports participation in our inner cities and encourage those kids to drink water as their primary hydration source instead of sugary sports drinks.”
“Brita’s urban initiative fits perfectly with Steel Sports’ mission to improve the overall youth sports experience, and we’re excited to work with them again on providing opportunities for inner-city teams and athletes,” Steel Sports CEO David Shapiro said. “Thanks to Brita, one team will win the experience of a lifetime in traveling to New York and competing against the top travel baseball teams in the country for a national championship.”
Last year, the Jerry Manuel Foundation 14U team won the Northern California qualifier and was selected to receive the all-expense-paid trip to New York to compete in the National Youth Baseball Championships. The team went on to capture the 14U title on national television.
“Thanks to Brita, our team experienced the journey of a lifetime traveling from California to New York and winning the 14U national championship,” former Major League Baseball player and manager Jerry Manuel said. “It was something not only our players, coaches and families, but our entire organization will never forget. We appreciate Brita's dedication to creating more opportunities in youth baseball for our urban communities.”
The National Youth Baseball Championships is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2017, and the finals will be held on July 24-30 at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, N.Y. The event, founded in 2008 by the late Chicago White Sox vice chairman Eddie Einhorn, brings together 9U-14U qualifiers from around the country to crown national champions. CBS Sports Network broadcasts games worldwide, and MLB.com provides live online streaming.
