Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn Wins Imagine Math Contest
Provo, UT (PRWEB) April 25, 2017 -- Imagine Learning, nationally recognized for its language, literacy, and mathematics instructional software, announced today the winner in its New York City Renewal HS Math Cup. This year, the coveted award goes to Boys and Girls High School of the New York City Renewal Schools District.
In order to win the cup, students at Boys and Girls High School solved more than 27,000 complex math problems and completed more than 683 math lessons—a higher total than any other Renewal high school—in just 28 days.
The Competition
Starting in early March of 2017, Renewal schools competed for bragging rights over the highest number of successfully completed lessons in Imagine Math. Over 32,000 students participated in the competition either at school, during after-school programs, or at home. At the end of the four-week competition period, all participating Renewal students had completed over 8,700 lessons and solved more than 318,000 complex math problems.
Awards Ceremony
During an awards ceremony slated for 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, students from the Boys and Girls High School will receive the Math Cup trophy, champion banner, and commemorative certificates. Executive Superintendent Aimee Horowitz and Renewal High Schools Director Lilliana Vendra, both of the NYC Department of Education, will attend the ceremony, in addition to representatives from Imagine Learning.
Additionally, two other Renewal schools emerged as runners up at the end of the competition period. These schools will be recognized during later award ceremonies at their respective schools (dates TBD):
• 1st Runner Up - Martin Van Buren High School (Queens Village)
• 2nd Runner Up - Brooklyn Collegiate: A College Board School
“The New York City Renewal High School Math Cup has generated tremendous enthusiasm from thousands of students across the city,” said Lisa Wise, motivation manager at Imagine Learning. “The level of participation and sheer quantity of math lessons completed in a single month speaks volumes about the program’s impact on schools and students. More importantly, the Math Cup plays a big role in end-of-year assessment preparation and helps students feel more confident about high-stakes tests.”
