Gilbane Building Company and 60 National and Global Partners Join to Celebrate Industry Safety Week
Providence, Rhode Island (PRWEB) May 01, 2017 -- Gilbane Building Company has joined forces with a consortium of 60 national and global construction firms to celebrate Safety Week from May 1-5, 2017. Safety Week is sponsored by members of The Construction Industry Safety Initiative (CISI) and the Incident & Injury Free Executive Forum (IIF). Additional support comes from the Alliance Partners, many of which are non-profit associations.
The theme for Safety Week 2017 is "It's in Our Hands" – signifying the personal stake each worker has in safety. The theme also puts a focus on hand safety – particularly relevant considering hand injuries are second only to back strains as a cause for missed work days, according to government agencies in the U.S. and Canada.
“Last year, 90% of Gilbane’s projects realized zero recordable injuries and 96% of our projects had zero lost time injuries, impressive statistics in our industry. In 2016, we implemented Mandatory Non-Negotiables on all our projects and continue to execute vigilant safety inspections at our job sites around the globe,” said Rebecca Severson, Corporate Director of Safety at Gilbane. “Safety Week reminds us that we all have similar reasons to work safe and return home safe. Through relentless application of best practices, visible leadership, and employee engagement, and active caring, Gilbane continues to be a safety leader in the construction industry and strives to ensure all of its operations are incident free.”
Gilbane’s philosophy of caring has resulted in recognition as one of the industry’s safest builders, including receiving the prestigious first place 2016 Construction Safety Excellence Award from the Associated General Contractors. This award honored Gilbane’s safety culture and performance, innovative safety techniques, management commitment and employee engagement. Throughout Safety Week 2017, Gilbane will be engaging employees around the Globe in enhanced safety training, education and awareness activities.
