Anne Arundel County Scholarship Program Awards $3m to Outstanding Scholars
Annapolis, Md. (PRWEB) May 10, 2017 -- Scholarships for Scholars, Inc. announced today that they have awarded over $2.9m in scholarships to over 900 graduating high school seniors since its inception in 1983. The program recognizes Anne Arundel County students who demonstrate exceptional scholastic achievement overall and in subjects like STEM, English, social studies, and the arts. The organization recently granted over $150,000 to 28 outstanding students representing 10 high county schools. Each student received scholarships from $2,000 to $8,000 and was honored at a ceremony and reception at the Chesapeake Arts Center.
The ceremony, run by the trustees themselves, also featured distinguished representatives from organizations presenting various individual awards. These sponsors included the Anne Arundel Retired School Personnel Association, Cristal USA, Crosby Marketing, South Anne Arundel County Rotary, and The Morris Family. Guest speaker, Dr. George Arlotto, Superintendent of Anne Arundel County Public Schools, praised the the winners’ achievements and standards of excellence.
Tatiana Wu, of South River High School, received the top overall award - the Edward J. Anderson Scholarship, named in honor of the program’s founder - for the most outstanding application of the year. Ms. Wu completed 19 AP classes during her high school career, achieved numerous accolades in violin and piano, interned at the County State’s Attorney’s office, and published scholarly papers on constitutional issues and environmental policy all while maintaining a strong presence in South River’s student clubs. She is headed to Stanford next year where she plans to study biomedical computation.
“Backstage, I listened in on the kids talking to each other...highly competitive winners with peers as interested, motivated and driven as they are, to inspire them to continue to drive forward academically and professionally,” said Dr. Margaret Shea-Moore, Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees.
